plow drops by itself

I have a meyer plow on my old ford pickup. I've noticed lately that the plow will "drop". It did it before, but it wasn't that noticable. now it drops pretty quickly when left in the up position. Is this an o-ring, or seal?? is it something that I can tackle myself or should i bring it in to a hydraulics place, and if I keep running it the way it is now, will I harm anything?

Ya something is leaking,it will only get worse.If ya know what your doin its not very hard to replace Orings and seals.Thetre's also trial & error to repair it,if ya get it apart & cant do it take it in.

Sounds like a leaky seal to me too. Messy but I would think pretty easy to do your self.

If there are no visible external leaks, then the problem is probably the valve seat in the up solenoid.

so how do I fix it?? there are no visible leaks, and the resivour is full. do I need to tear the pump completely apart, or will this be "just below the surface"?

Probably depends on the unit. I'm not familiar with them, but if the solenoid valve is external, they usually can be unscrewed and cleaned or replaced.

Just be sure you drop the plow all the way and bleed off any pressure. Don't want to take a bath in hydraulic fluid, or worse yet, have it injected into your body.
