Used StrikeMaster Problems!!

I am having issues with my Strikemaster, and am asking for help to dissect the problem. I have a StrikeMaster Mag 2000 Auger that's 8-10 years old. Has been working great till this past weekend. But anyway, it starts on the 1st or 2nd pull, but when I try to throttle it up, the auger portion of the ice auger does not spin and it does not throttle up, it just remainds idling. I've checked to see if the throttle cable was broke, but that remains intact.

Could anyone give me some advise and possibly tell me what's wrong and how it can be repaired on why it doesn't throttle up and why the auger doesn't engage/spin.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert when it comes to small engines, but what would you recommend I do to fix this problem. When you say that the linkage might be the problem cause it's not engaging, what do you mean. After the auger starts, it isn't stalling, it just doesn't throttle up and the auger doesn't engage. Is this a simple fix? Others recommended that I spray some WD40 in and around the carb to see if it will loosen up what's clogged in the carb.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I would recomend callin STRIKEMASTER, tell them exactly what its doing. I bet they will be able to walk you through the process over the phone. I just had a prob with mine. Called them up and told them what the problem was and they told me the only 2 possibilities what could be causing this. Ended up they were correct and had to buy a new auger shaft, old one got bent somehow. Now she cuts like a dream. Hope this helps.

I had a similar thing happen to me just last weekend. Check underneath the gas tank where the throttle cable attaches to the carb, there should be a small plate where that cable attaches. Does it move when you pull the throttle? Can you move that plate with your finger and does it rev up when you do so?

Thanks for all your replies, have been very helpful. Will try repairing the auger when I get home tonight and let you know how it goes. Otherwise will have to give StrikeMaster a call to see if they can help me with the issue or try to walk me through the process.

Could be your linkage is sticking from 2cycle gunk. It happens every few years. Try some wd40 on the moving parts and work them around a bit. Blow off excess wd with air hose or caned air ( the stuf you use on your keyboard) will do the trick. If its not that your throtle return spring came off.

I had this problem for the first time with my old lazer this year. I think that you will find the issue is the gunk from the muffler running onto the linkage. I tried laying mine down on the gas side of the auger (I have the offset crazy handles) and I think that is where my problems are from. I am able to reach under the tank and flutter the linkage when this happens. I wonder if the WD will also freeze up??? Might have to use de-icer/isopropyl to clean it up??

Thanks for all the good advice. It was just what you have all indicated. The runoff from the muffler onto the linkage. I sprayed some WD40 into the area to lossen the gunk and then sprayed it off with an air hose to get rid of or discharge the gunk.

It works like new now.

Thanks again for all your good advices. They are very much appreciated.

This happened to me also. There are 2 springs that control the idle, and if the spring isn't tight enough it won't engage the throttle. Mine worked fine inside, but get it into the cold and it would not throttle. I brought it to a small gas shop called Lehman's in Anoka, and they had it fixed in 2 days even though there was a 5 day wait on repairs. Best 45 bucks i've ever spent, the auger has never run this fast before. And ya i tried to clean the mechanism with Sea Foam and it didn't help in the cold, locked up twice on the ice GRRRR.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
