snowblower electric start

My dads electric start on the snowblower is not working. He hears the starter turning but it will not engage. He put some heat on it the other day but it didn't help. Is this a problem that could be fixed easy or does it require a mechanic or a new starter? I'm not a great mechanic mind but can do some fairly easy things and will be in charge of fixing it.

Probably the bendix drive gear,The small gear on top of starter that engages the flywheel,clean it check to make sure a spring is not broke,or the gear isn't striped

Many times this is caused by starter not getting enough juice. If blower has an onboard battery check it for full charge. Also check the battery connection, starter and solinoid wire connections.

Sounds excactly like mine did. Remove the starter and clean the bendix. there is a "disc" just under the gear, more than likely, that disc is not jumping up the bendix when the starter spins. Easy fix.

Also check the two bolts that hold the starter in place ive seen them losen up on a few differant blowes and cause the starter to fail.

Depending on the size of the motor on the blower, there could be two or four bolts holding the starter on. Two are easy to get at and two are kinda tough. They do come loose and cause this problem. If someone has cranked away trying to get the blower to start, the tabs that the bolts screw into will break also. Have seen a couple that way this year.
