Touching bait after smoking???

I have seen and read about anglers dipping their hands in gas intentionally and still catching fish. Gas is not water soluble, and the fish can't smell it!

Smoke residue is water soluble, however.

I agree that it could have an effect but after quitting smoking, I have not seen an increase in my catch rate and I smoked alot while fishing.

Maybe just luck but I don't believe so.

I would likely blow myself up before I catch a fish..since I do smoke.

I go on a charter fishing trip every summer on Lake Superior. And the captain, who is very experienced, will not let you touch any bait or tackle if you are a smoker, he says the scent is transfered and the fish can smell it.

Ah ha! Another excuse as to why i can't catch fish! Cig smell!...I don't believe it.

There's enough tabacco in the lakes why would the fish pick up on a light sent on the bait!
