giving to charities always makes the rich look good, but the reality is they do it for the tax breaks/incentives.

this is why professional athletes have their foundations and such, it's a place to put money lowering your personal tax liability and doing good for the community. if they were such humanitarians they would be volunteering for the red cross in foreign countries, not being a professional athlete.

BINGO!!

You nailed it. Carl was a rich man who wanted nothing more than to be richer. Rest in peace cheapskate Carl.

Some give to charity because they can, some because they want to, some because of tax breaks and some will do it for all those reasons. He was a businessman first and I won't hold that against him. Foreclosing on farms in the depression was his start to megawealth. Horrible job and a horrible thing to do to people but if Carl didn't do it, someone else would have. The result on those peoples lives, farms and future was the same even if Carl had gone into the preisthood. We may question his motives, or ethics in some things but I believe every penny of his 2.5 billion was earned legally. If we were to talk unkindly against anyone who ever did something self serving to the benefit of their own careers or wealth we would not have many people to ulogize with kind words. I am not nominating him for sainthood but if all anyone can do is rip the guy for not giving his money away for our benefit, are we any less selfish?

Whether we have 2 bits or 2 billion, we all have the right to do whatever we want with that money. As long as it is earned legally of course.

I didn't know the man or his legacy so I won't rip him, I will just RIP him!

Just think Windy. If it wasn't for Carl bailing out Griffith many years ago, your Sox would be losing to some team called the Portland Twins or something like that.

Man Fish,

I was just gonna write you some cudo's on your post after mine and then I read the next one and now I gotta pull out The Question. You know, the one where I ask you who won the division this year and who won the most recent World Series and who has won more World Series overall and then you will ask me about just the years that the Twinks have been in existence and then I will have to come back with...... Yada Yada Yada! LOL

Hey Guys,

What would the owner of a team like better at his "virtual wake" more than baseball fans trading barbs! It's kind of like an Irish Wake, without the booze! LOL

I think everybody should pay their respects and some have seemed to do it better than others but none of us really knew the man. Some knew what he did and how he got to where he was but I don't think anybody in here ever had Thanksgiving dinner at the Pohlad house. I think Fishy said it best when he talked about him legally earning every penny during his life, even if they thought his business was an ugly one. Today's business world is gonna get ugly with the Messiah rolling into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave any day now to redistribute the wealth of America. You are going to see the have nots reaching deep into the pockets of the haves and legally stealing much of their hard earned dollars for doing nothing more than being born within our borders. Now that is an "ugly" profession if you ask me. I will get off my soap box now.

PS: Can you tell I was bored? Sitting here doing laundry! LOL

RIP. Just another banker that made his billions off the sweat of other's labor in my book.

Thank God for Eloise. The Twins are the only professional franchise in town I give two rips about. Carl might have pushed the contraction deal a lot harder without her giving him grief about it constantly.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
