I have Direct TV with DVR and mine used to do that. Turns out it was the DVR that was causing it and Direct TV replaced it.

It is still froze this morning. Cable company will be called tomorrow, believe me. Thankfully it isn't FOX, and I can still watch the Vikes.

I would call them right now Zamboni. Most companies do service calls seven days a week. At least get an appointment setup. Have you tried unplugging the receiver for five minutes or so and letting it start up again?
