Dad Was Coaching From Above

2003-12-22-packers.jpg OAKLAND — Brett Favre dealt with the grief in the best way he could imagine. He played his heavy heart out. Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns a day after his father's death, moving into second place in NFL history for career TD passes while leading the Green Bay Packers to a 41-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Monday night.
KILN, Miss. (AP) — Brett Favre's father died Sunday of a heart attack or a stroke while he was driving, Mississippi state police said. Irvin Favre was 58. Favre went off the road at 5:23 p.m. near Kiln, the hometown of Brett, a three-time NFL most valuable player for the Green Bay PackersIrvin Irvin Favre coached his son at Hancock North Central High School. He said he knew Brett had a good arm, but he also had an abundance of good running backs. So, for the three years Brett was the starting quarterback, Hancock North ran the wishbone.

One of the school's signature plays at the time was a pitchout with Brett Favre as the lead blocker.

"If I had wanted to showcase my son, I could have let him throw," Irvin Favre said later. "But I thought I did a good job in that what I was doing was in the best interest of the team."

Irvin Favre followed his son's NFL career closely and considered the Packers' 1997 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in New Orleans among the best events of his life.

"Sometimes I think it's just a football game," Irvin Favre said at the time. "Then when I think about it, I realize it's the world's championship.

"It's hard to believe that the little boy we raised has done all this."

There was something fishy going on last night....that's for sure. Any other night and Farve would have had 3 int's for sure last night. Certainly should have had 3 intercepted. I truly don't like the Packers, won't hide that....but you gotta respect the guy even though he sometimes gets way more credit than he should!!!!

Go Purple!

Spin,

Didn't realize I was whinning. Sorry. Is there a reason for me to whine??
Minnesota 9-7, Green Bay 9-7
It all comes down to this.......

I do feel for Brett and his family. Glad he was successful as it will likely help in the healing process.

I don't like the Vikings,I won't hide that either but the topic started out about a gutty performance by a future hall of famer under horrible circumstances. If he retired tomorrow, I would think back on 11 years of this guy playing for Green Bay and say "thanks for a great run and a Super Bowl." What a ride. But he's not retiring so the ride isn't over.

Sinker, you hit it right on the head. I was inspired by the way Brett handled the whole situation. To have a game as well played as that...Iceing on the cake. Who knows, maybe he had a little help from above? Looking at him and the way he carried himself, while imagining what may be going thru his head....I'm glad I have yet to experience that. smile.gif

I would say the recievers really wanted to catch the ball for Brett. They really went after it. The offensive coordinator really got his but chewed in the media the week before for not letting Brett throw the long one and apparently decided to let let Brett be Brett for a change. If the Pack had some coaches things would really look up.
