There are alot of 4x8 sheets of plastic you could rip down to size with a table saw and use as wear bars but the up front cost will be about the same unless you split the extra with friends. If intrestead check out the hog and cattle liners, they come in different thickness.Just drill and mount!

You could get some of the stuff they use for snowmobiles. If you gat a little time and some tools to fabricate it (cut it to the right size, drill holes, and recess the holes) you will be fine. Im pretty sure its about half the price if you go that way. Time is money with that stuff.

I put the hyfax from the sled vendor on my sled before the season started. It is already worn out. I decided to try to find some used downhill or cross country skis to replace the hyfax. we found a set of downhill skis at a pawn shop in town. Bought them for $10. Mounted them to the sled and they work great. They are actually a little longer than the sled so I am going to make a box and mount it on the back of the skis to hold my 20lb propane bottle and a 5 gallon bucket. This will save some room in my sled.

You might want to look into this. It might look a little "Hill-Billy" but it will work great. (And I decided no more dragging it across 200-300 yards of gravel behind the atv to get to the truck anymore)

I used snowmobile hyfax from a local outlet store and put it on the runners of my 6x12 permenant house a few years back to make it slide better on the ice. It worked great and held up great. It probly would be fairly easy to install onto a portable sled and it was very cheap. It might even be more durable than the popular kits.

The other thing would be to talk to some of your snowmobiling firends, or a local sled shop, and see if you can get used hyfax slides from them. Would be free, a bit thinner, but you could always change it out next year too. I just put new hyfax on my snowmobile, and I doubt it is much cheaper than the stuff you can buy from the stores in kits, I think mine was $15 or so per slide.
