Crystal Line

I have always fished with mono and just this year started using the crystal. I like it and feel a little more confident when bringing in a bigger fish with teeth! I just would like some tips on using it. I have been told to back the spool with mono so it wont slip? Is this correct, any other suggestions?

I end up downsizing my lb. test as well. Even the 2lb. stuff is TOUGH and super sensitive for hauling in a few snakes while panfishing. I like the way my darter's and jig's hang on the line as well, the lure seems to fall very nicely. Great stuff.

I use #4lb. and #3lb. with no drawbacks.. Use a small piece of tape or cut a small piece of the white tape that holds the line on the spool. I have landed northerns, walleyes, big bass, fat bluegills -n- crappies, on this line.. Have a little patience when tying your knots.. I use the quick clips, for my panfish rigs with this line.. Tie a good knot, looping twice through the eyelet.. A good clippers, small scissors.. Remember when tying your knots with this line, you have to spin the top loop around line a few more than mono.. Then check your knot for slippage.. That is ok if it slips very minor and still leaves a tiny tag.. Fish On..

I have had the ice up issues when hole hopping, but I don'nt mind too much.. Where is perfect this and perfect that for fishing?? I also use fire line.. Depending on how hard your hook sets are esspeccially on papermouth slab crappies, this line I also use.. Sometimes later in the season Feb. March. when chasing the slabs.. I will switch back to mono for a little stretch for those Big Papermouth crappies.. Preferrence to the individual is what it is..

I use Crystal at times but I prefer Gamma ESP and P-Line Flourice.

I always back my reels with mono before I put on the line I'll be fishing with. I use cajun red for backing quite often, it's cheap and it's easy to tell when you're getting close to your backing.

I use as thin a diameter of Crystal as possible, that's one of the benefits of using it.

I don't like it for hole hopping outside, it freezes up way too much for my liking.

I don't like how visible it is in the water. I have 1 panfish rod for ultra light-biting and ultra finnicky fish. It's a spring bobber rod with the smallest size Crystal you can buy, and a 3 foot leader of 2 lb Flour-Ice. I can detect bites on that setup when they're biting too light to be caught on my other rigs.

Knots will slip in Crystal, make sure you're using good knots (palomar if possible).
