keeping holes open in permenant overnight

just wondering if anyone has any tricks to keeping your holes from freezing up overnight. Redrilling sucks its to sloppy and a major pain. thanks

Have you tried the OLD spoon style hand auger?

They work great for reopening the holes in a perm and the only mess you make is the one your trying to create.

I have been using my Icegator to reopen holes. It works GREAT. you can stop it the insant it goes through. No mess, no exhaust fumes.

lazer augers work great also... just don't get those blue ones, they suck for reopening holes.

make sure you bank the outside of your house good is the biggest thing. And i thought after we put in catch covers that also helped. Anything to cut the breeze down.

This year I mounted a couple of computer fans up near the ceiling, pointing down. That has helped a ton.

Catch Cover Hole Sleeves

I've got a wheel house and had a problem with a draft coming thru one hole in the house even when i thougth i had it banked pretty well. The draft was coming from behind the wheels. So i'm looking into getting a couple sleeves that will drop down and sit flush on the ice/snow to keep the draft off the hole and out of the house. That should let the heat of the house keep the hole open.

Thanks for all the sugestions I was also thinking about trying ice cream buckets.

I remember seeing something online last year, cant remember the name,, but its an inflatable bladder that goes in the hole and then you let the air out when you are ready to use the hole.
