Hmmmm, two different species of purple flowers in that image. Looks like a little research is in order for Spearing Machine since we're not telling.

Thanks guys for the help!! I am not sure why I said purple cone flower as I keow it is nothing like those in the picture. If my research and peterson field guide are correct there are two different purple flowers. First, is the long skinny ones which are Hoary Vervain, the other is the one that looks like it is exploding is Purple Knapweed.

You got it on the Hoary Vervain...and to me (read into that as much as you wish) the other one is a toss up between Bergamot and Knapweed. (I struggle with these two). Either way nice job on the pics and the research!!
