When to use black

under what conditions would I want to try black? Or other dull or dark colors? I am talking panfish only. Crappies and Bluegill mainly perch too.

Black can be a good color at any time but,the further into the late-ice bite we get,it can be the color I use almost exclusively.

It's like the old saying goes: If it's sunny, use light colors, if it's cloudy use dark colors. And if that doesn't work, do the opposite.

I have had good luck using black, (summer and winter), when the fish just would not bite anything with color on it. Plain unpainted jigs are also great under these conditions.
