Your most memorable morel moments

Just wondering what everyone's most memorable moments or best finds are.

I'll start with mine. Wish i had pics for everyone but could not fink them at my mom's.

Me and my nephew was out turkey hunting in Nebraska about 7 years age. No Toms would come to a call(doesn't help that on a good day of scouting or just driving around you could see about 150+ plus turkeys. So we were walking back to the truck and I looked out alond a hedgerow about 200 yrds long and about 15 yard wide and saw nothing but gold tops. I could not believe what I was seeing. I told my nephew to look around and he kinda looked at me like what the he ll for. And then he was like HOLY SH*T. So, we began to pick all the big goldens a guy could ask for. The only thing we had to carry them in was our collapsable turkey decoys and a laundry basket. We picked for what seemed like 2 hrs and when was all said and done we ended up with over 27 pounds of golden beauties out of that spot and another 13 pounds out of another spot and a very sorry back, but well worth it. The down side to it all was we went back for the next 4 or 5 years and found nothing. They say patches like that only grow about every 6 or seven years and of course the moisture in the ground and warm weather in the spring just have to play a role in all the factors. Thought it would be interesting for all of us shroomers to share stories with each other.

Hopefully this year will be a good year for all.

We have the moisture, now all we need is the warm weather.

Good luck to all and have fun but watch out for those ticks, they are bad. And one other thing keep a close eye out for those nesting hen turkeys, because usually if they get spooked off their nest they don't return.

Turkey hunting approx 6 years ago and after shooting a turkey, I went in the woods to retrive it and while I was walking to the bird(approx. 30 yards), wella, hundreds of morels. The funny part was, I got so excited that I started to pick the morels, went back to the truck to find a container and when I was done picking, I couldn't find my turkey. 10 minutes later I was on my way home with a nice bird and a beautiful mess of mushrooms.

It was when i was younger my brother was looking out the window and asked me what was growing in the yard.I said morels and we whent and picked them. When my dad got home from work he couldn't believe it.He said they use to walk miles looking for them. Then us youngsters get up in the morning and find them looking out the window. We have been hooked ever since.

You probably do. These were picked near Walker. I know they grow as far north as the Boundary Waters too.

Think I got at least a few days yet until I'm out looking this year.

One of my great finds was about 4 or 5 years ago. We picked lots of grays that year and had no problem filling an ice cream buckts full (per person) in an hour or so. What a year, we picked many buckets! Best year ever! Anyway, I stopped in one spot in a low area and spotted a beauty. I bent down to pick it and scan for more (an any good shroomer would know, they are almost never alone) and I saw beautiful gray morels as far as the eye could see. I crawled on my hands and kness in this one spot and had two heeping baskets full (turned out to be about 2.5 gallons worth). I still refer to this one as the mother load! Shrooming is an addiction, it is only a matter of time until old mother earth pays out even bigger!!!!! Good luck all!

When I was a kid (many years ago) my dad and I were out looking. Later we met up and my dad had a pretty good batch and I had about 3. We were just splitting up again and I was yelling something to him when I tripped over a log right into a field of morels. I him over and we picked that spot out and went home. I've been hooked ever since.

I was hiking a neighbors property, looking and finding nothing...just about dusk, came across a fresh, clear logged area, and was lamenting the loss of those trees...'til I looked down and noticed a nice mess of Morels...

I started tucking them in my t-shirt front like a Kangaroo, then got too many and scrambled around 'til I found a ripped up plastic bag floating around, tied the holes into knots, filled her up too, and skulked like the Hunchback of Notre' Dame back home in near dark... seeing Bears in every shadow... whistle.gif

Only time I was ever thankful for litter... blush.gif
