Fenwick Techna AV - Aramid Veil Design

Recommended Posts

I just bought an 8' MH. I have used the Technas in friends boats and imo it is one of the best rods out there. Extremely light and kevlar reinforced.

Not all Technas are created equal when it comes to power and action meaning they are not all uniform, some are stiffer than others and have more moderate actions. This isn't a bad thing, I went through about 10 of them on teh sales floor befor I found the one that I like. I basically went with the stiffest one I could find because I hope to throw some bigger baits with it too.

All in all Awesome rod...

I won a Fenwick Techna AV 8' MH in a tourny once and didn't like it at first, but had Lonnie at TB lengthen the handle from 12 to 15" and now its my favorite big bait rod. Action is fast enough to throw big blades and back bone is stiff enough to work mag dawgs effectively. I have no idea what they cost as I didn't pay for it.

Setterguy, What did Lonnie at TB charge you to lengthen your rod handle? I am looking to buy this same Techna AV rod to use for spinner baits, small-med bucktails, small-med cranks. Is this rod still one of your favorites?

10,000 Casts, Any comments about this rod after using it for a season? In your opinion, What types of fishing techniques shine with this rod?

Thanks!

I like it alot. It can throw about anything up to a mag dawg. It also has really good feel with smaller inlines which is what I primarily threw with it. It seems to be a very durable rod that you can beat around. I never saw one returned in the 3 years that I sold them. One thing about the rod that I didn't like is how it loaded up on the figure 8 with double 10's. It seemed harder to work around. But surprisingly enough, it is a great jerk bait/twitch bait rod too.

Sweet! Thanks John. Heading out to pick up this rod right now. I'm likely going to add the extra inches that setterguy had done to his rod. TB's only charges $4.50 an inch + the cost of the graphite insert.

That suprises me that this will throw the mag dawgs. I'll leave that duty as well the double 10's for my 8' Compre XH.

Thanks again!

I have 3 of the 7.6 heavy action techna AV rods. They sell for about $160.00, if I remember correctly. Very solid rods, I use them primarily for jerkbaits and large cranks.

Ace guide service.

Beautiful lake Vermilion.

I loved mine before I did something stupid and broke it. Wife got me a Loomis to replace it with since they are about the same price ( or was at that time) Last I looked at FFO the 7'6" was $230. I have several Technas for walleye fishing and love those to, plus can't beat the price for a seconds rod for $25.

I also have the 8' xh Compre with a 7000 on it for bigger stuff. Great Rod... On the Techna, I never really thought that it needed a handle extension but it's probably not a bad idea.
