Plastic worms - help

Craig Plummer

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up some Berkley Gulp Shaky Worms, Power Bait Finesse Worms, and some Reaction Innovations Flirt worms.

What are some of the best ways to use these thin worms and what would be the best times for them meaning: time of year, weather, presentation, what scenarios/structure do you prefer these in?

Thanks

I like to fish all these lures on a 1/8 oz. jig head/shaky head. The ones i use the most are pictured below. I will go with a bigger size jig head if the wind starts to pick up.

This type of presentation will work for you year around. You will just have to move with the fish and their seasonal movements. I use it most of the time on weed lines in the summer. I will cast right along the end of the weed line and just work it back real slow on the bottom, shaking the worm and hopping it along. It works great for lakes that get fish hard. I have also skipped it under docks before with great success.

They lures can also be great lures for drop shotting.

all those baits are good for both drop shotting and jig worming.

as far a jigs I use 3/16 90% of the time, along with 1/8 and 1/4. Just make sure you buy a jig that is geared toward bass and not walleye: longer shank with a about a 60 degree eye. Just google 'shakey heads' and im sure you can find numerous jigs with these properties. Also for jig worming i prefer a spinning rod and 8-10 test.
