tigerbalm2424
Just trying to clean up my white Johnson outboard. I run it a lot on the rivers trimmed up and this has generated a thick black buildup on the back of the motor above the lower unit. It wont rub off or come off with normal soap/water. Any suggestions?
VMS
I would suggest something like an engine degreaser. should pull it off without too much issue, but test it first to see what it could potentially do to the paint. Shouldn't hurt it, but...one never knows...Steve
sparcebag
Try auto polishing compound...(rubbing compound) Works Great for me.

davesfriend
Yup, compound should do the trick. When you are done though, put some wax or sealant back on there. This will help it from sticking and staining again.

LMITOUT
People swear by two products called "Restore" and "Wonderfoam" to take off water spots and oxidation from boats. I only know of the owner who sells it from his HSOforum and apparently not available anywhere else to buy. Boat owners rave about the stuff and I've seen pictures of boats that were left in the water during the year and then cleaned up with the stuff and they looked like new again. I've never used it but plan on buying a couple bottles this year to help combat water spots on my fiberglass boat. It's a spray on, wipe off procedure so it's very simple to use. Try doing a google search for one or both of those products and you may find it. I'm betting it will clean up that motor.
PerchJerker
I've also heard of those two products and heard they work great -- I've also heard s couple of real horror stories about them if you don't use them exactly like the directions say, or if you leave them on the boat too long.Waterspots on a glass boat - get a spray bottle with water and white vinegar, I only use 10%-20% vinegar but some guys go all the way to 50% vinegar. Spray it on, wipe it off with a soft towel, no more water spots. Works great on motors too. And for cleaning water spots off gps and depthfinder screens. I keep a spray bottle in the boat all the time and it only takes a few minutes to touch it up.
LMITOUT
I use the vinegar too, but want something with a little more cutting power. Not as smelly too!
