Fazzy
I spoke with a guy who claims to have shot 2 toms in 1 shot. Is this unprecedented / legal? – He was apparently hunting with a friend and used the friends tag on the extra bird. I’m curious to know if anyone else has heard of such an occurance. eric29
Ive heard bout this alot, couple years ago a buddy shot 3 jakes in one shot. I wouldnt want the hassle of tryin to find tags for 2 or 3 of them, i always make sure there isnt another standing behind the one i want.
woody1975
Not legal in MN, but also not un-heard of!DL
Borch
Illegal in MN as there is no party hunting for turkeys here. In several other states with multiple bird limits it is legal if more than one bird can be taken daily. In fact I saw it on one of the Primos Truth videos last night. Hammer Handle
Actually, easy to do.You have to wait for your shot and take one where you won't hit another bird...especially a hen.As a kid, I made the mistake of shooting 14 ducks in 3 shots. Most were wounded, and I had to get my brothers to finish them off. But, very illegal if I would have got caught.Won't happen again for I don't shoot like the anyone and I doubt I will ever have that many ducks all pile in like they did that day! Tipup101
I hade a buddy get two gobblers with one shot. He shot the one twonty yards infront of him. When went to get him about another 40 yards away and five yards to the left on the other side of a brushed in fence line we heard flopping. Here was another tom with one pellet wound to the head. We never saw that bird. We called the DNR cause thats what your suppose to do. He said things like this happen all the time, 400 pellets flying out some tend to stray. The bird went to a homeless shelter. My buddy did get a written warning. But better than trying to sneak it out and getting a ticket. But bottom line make shure your bird is clear accidents happen but you should try to prevent them. If it does happen and it was an accident the co will never give you a ticket just a warning or so they say.
goblueM
Couple years ago that happened with my uncle and I, we were sitting about 5 yards from each other and he had the angle on a real nice bird that I didn't - he shot and nailed another tom at 45 yards (just the two birds were there) at the same time. Luckily I was right there, don't want to be messing around with that kinda stuff
germanshorthairs
Not legal, you need to wait for a shot that will only allow one bird to get hit. I could have shot 5 jakes at once this season but waited for a shot on just one. If that meant watching them all walk away, I would have. If you shoot and get two, that is no accident in my book. You need to know what your target is and beyond. That is part of hunting if you are not allowed a shot on just one.
Tipup101
You need to know what your target is and beyond. Thats true but in our case the we where unable to see the bird because it was behind so much cover I don't even know how he got hit cause he was not in our line of fire. The CO was stumped by it. It was a case where a pelet strayed it does happen. Plus if you turkey hunt all your life it will probably happen to you. That came from a CO at a NWTF class who had it happen to him or so he said. I agree your turkey should be clear but pelets do travel past your line of vision some times. I like to think thats what happens must of the time that no one hunting in this state is blasting into groups.
germanshorthairs
tipup101, I would consider your scenario a lesson learned. I know I will never shoot two turkeys with one shot because I know what is beyond my target. If I did not know what was beyond my target I would not shoot. Most basic thing you learn in hunter education. I know pellets will go through brush so I would not shoot at them and think that the pellets would not go through. I am very big on hunter safety and I don't think this is excusable. What was the CO's name and badge number, I would like to talk with him. I don't think that it is right for a CO to say that incidents like this do happen and that is ok. [PoorWordUsage] in my book. SAFETY FIRST!!!!!! Lunger
You want his name and badge number? So are you the authority or what? Get over it Mr Perfect.
eric29
I believe things like this are inexcusable also. It was probably a fluke in tipups case if the bird wasnt near the line of fire. But i can safely say i wont shoot more than one in one shot in my lifetime. Safety and the law are always more important than trophy. You never know it could be ur kid in the brush ur shootin into
germanshorthairs
When it comes to guns and shooting-you have to be PERFECT-errors are deadly. That is my point!!!! So you get over it. Also, I don't believe it is ok for the authority to allow this. Young hunters look up to the authority and if they allow this-what next?? (I did not see that hen behind the rooster-I did not see that doe behind that brush when I shot the buck)Safety First!!!!!!!!! Accidents with guns are deadly and are inexcusable!!
