Need Another Reel

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have a 7' MH St. Croix Triumph, a 6'10 H Fig Rig, a 7'6 MH St. Croix Avid, and a 8'6 H Guide Series Pro Tournement Musky.

As far as reels go I have 2 6500C3s and 1 7000C3i. I'm divided between getting another C3 for the versatility, a C4 to put on the Fig Rig for jerkbaits, or a 7000C3i to have one on my 7'6 and 8'6. What do you guys think?

Personally, there is really no good reason to get a C4. There is no need for that fast of a reel, and they tend to wear out quickly. I actually prefer a little slower reel for jerkbaits so I can really slack snap them. I use a 7000 for just about anything. Of the reels you mention, C3.

If you aren't married to Garcia, check out the Okuma Induron. Versatile gear ratio that is good for pretty much everything. Good reel at a great price, and Okuma has great customer service.

For a high speed reel, I would look to the Shimano Curado 300DSV. Awesome reel, but you'll pay for it. Also, even though it is high speed the large gears make it very powerful.

Strongly recommend against a C4. Aside from the the breakdown problems one problem I've had with mine which led me to return it prior to a breakdown is that when the fighting drag is snugged down it affects your ability to cast (especially light lures such as bucktails you wanna burn which is likely why you want the darn thing). Don't know what the reason behind this is but imho makes the reel useless for musky fishing.

Leverage the 'belas' VISA Card promo and the Shimano rebate and you're looking at $100 off the Shimano 300DSV. I picked one up and am scrounging up change for another.

The one is for a 9' M Dback muskie rod and I'm looking at #2 for my 7'10" Avid flippin' stick. Sweet set-up for smaller baits, tigers in general, and for horsing the bass from the 'foil on 'tonka. Three uses from one set-up, I think I can justify that!

I would also suggest looking at the Indurons, IMO look at anything but Abu

I can't stand anything Abu. I have 4 junk one's sitting here. 3 have been repaired twice only to fail again on the maiden re-voyage.

I now have 3 Calcutta's and 2 Curado's. Love them all, never go back! I really like the Curado's for how well they fit the hand and how strong they appear to be so far.

I did fish with Induron's when I was at Cave Run, they seemed pretty good too.

Abu vs Diawa vs Shimano is just exactly like Dodge vs Chevy vs Ford... *sigh*

Poutpro... SSC3 is basically a C3 with stainless steel bearings, hence SSC3... which is what they use for regular C3's too... Pretty much SSC3 is the version of regular C3 with a thumbbar instead of button release... and they're standard with marroon plates instead of silver for C3's

You can also find the info in one of the EARLIEST posting I made about Abu Garcia reels (Ambassadeur series)... Just go thru my posting history and you'll find it...
