FXDI35er
Over teh past few years one of my favorite things to do is agate pick when the north shore ice is receeding off the shore along the Norht shore of Lake Superior. It never ceases to amaze me as to how many dead deer I find near the water...I always wondered how they died? Any ideas? Drowning?
redhooks
Many get smacked by cars and run far enough to die someplace, I hate driving hwy 61 after dark. Wolves will sometimes chase them on to the hwys and sometimes into river goerges, also maybe they fall thru rivers while trying to cross?redhooks
Nate McVey
Wounded deer will naturally run towards water, why I don't know, but I believe that is the reason there are so many on the shore. Plus it is only 100 yards at the farthest spot from 61 to the lake. I like the natural "bait piles" along the shore. Everyday I see eagles and I've come across wolves numerous times chomping away on roadkill, but like redhooks said, hwy 61 is a nightmare after dark. jlm
Deer that are wounded in the stomach area will tend to head for water as this creates a cooling sensation from the burning contents of the stomach. Gut shot deer will almost always attempt to find water or mud and left undisturbed, they most likely will die there (just a tip if you make a marginal shot). I doubt this is the reason in this case however. Just thought I would throw that in! Good luck all!
