Grant Pearson
I'm thinking about getting a 8'0" shimano Compre rod in XH for pitching things like double cowgirls, showgirls and a few other larger baits I have. My question is, being money is tight, and I already have a reel for this rod, would this be a decent rod for pitching these items?
Dano_the_jigasaurus
yes, this rod would work great especially for the $$. Shimano although doesn't have the walk in warranty anymore, the customer service is still outstanding. dan

cjac
I sent a note to a buddy who's a Shimano rep, I'll let you know what I hear back. kingfisher1: Good rod for what you're looking for. I personally think the Shimano ratings are a liitle on the lighter side than others, so that XH will still work for the lighter baits too. Check the post a couple down from here about choosing a rod, good sugestion from Muskie Mojo to look at the Okuma rods too. Good luck!
Deitz Dittrich
Thanks for the heads up Cjac... I do work a lot with Shimano(am on the prostaff) and I have not heard of the issues with warrenty. I just got off the phone with Shimano.. And there is still over the counter warrenty exchange. You break a rod, bring it in to any Shimano Dealer in NORTH AMERICA and you will get a new rod as long as they have it in stock.Hope this puts an end to any rumors. Its a great rod and will do what you want it to do!.. Tim_Anderson
Should be a good rod for you. I have two and they've been great for me.
cjac
That was fast, thanks Deitz! Your quick reply speaks well to how Shimano treats customer service at all levels. Thank you. king...since it's fun for me to spend other people's money, go get the rod! A "nod" from Tim A. too, who is one the water ALL season and likes 'em , that's more than good enough for me! Deitz Dittrich
Cjac-- I would like to think that Shimano cust service is second to none... I will say that there are a few stores that will not do the over the counter exchange, but the ones that dont are not shimano dealers, they just have shimano products..Larger retailers, Thorne Brother, Gander Mnt, Cabelas, Reeds, Fleet Farm, ect, are all Shimano Dealers.ok.. off the shimano soap box. I have had a chance to use the 8' XH Compre for throwing Large swim baits like the bulldogs.. and double cowgirls.. I thought it performed as good as any more expensive rod I have had the chance to use. While I dont spend a ton of time fishing ski, I get out about 10-20 times a year for them. Dano_the_jigasaurus
ok thanks for clearing that up...well another reason to go with the rod then. Sorry bout creating the confusion. dan
Deitz Dittrich
No problem Dano, I would like to know where you heard it though, was it a store employee?
MUSKY18
I have been using a Shimano Compre as my jerkbait rod for a few years now. Absolutely love the rod. This coming year, i am going to replace it because it is getting old and banged up, and will be buying another Compre. Like them better than any other rod I have used for jerkbaits. I do have an 8' St Croix and am thinking about picking up a 8' Compre to go along with it. Very good rods.
Dano_the_jigasaurus
Yeah, I heard it from a fishing "expert" at Cabelas about a three weeks ago.

Rebel9921
Grant... go for it... or if you want longer rods, go for Strike Reaction's rods... they're basically the SAME as MI's Bulldawg rods... and they come in up to 9'0... and cost approx the same as a Shimano Compre... but then again... Compres has better warranty so you'll probably be getting ur money's worth with Compres...
Grant Pearson
thanks guys. I have 2 compres in Heavy, so I already know and LOVE the quality. I'll be getting the XH very shortly!!!!
veha44
if the biggest thing that you were going to throw on the rod was to be a cowgirl or bigger topwater, then i would advise you to go a step down to the 8'H, the xh is a little on the heavy side for cowgirls. however if you plan on casting the magdawgs and other baits around that weight, then you have to go with the xh as the 8'H will break from a mag. Grant Pearson
I should've added this too, but would the XH be a good bet for trolling some of the bigger baits during the fall?
