Fillet
Any of you use some sort of rod tubes to stand your rods up in the boat? What models work best? I saw one at Cabelas that fits in your unused seat mounts. Any advice?
harvey lee
I have 7 of them mounted in the boat. When traveling down the rod for even a short distance, I would lay them down or your lines will get somewhat tangled up.I have used the plastic ones. There are many different companies that make these and a little search will turn up many different suppliers.
traveler
I have a center console; upright rod tubes are pretty standard on the sides of the console. I really like them once you get used to them being there. Mine are plastic, but i see them in SS as well, usually in a 3 0r 4 rod configuration. Really not much difference between the ones I've seen as all they do is hold the rods.
candiru
I got some FTC Rod Holders in my boat (google: FTC Rod Holders). They have slots in them so that the rods ride well, hold still, and don't get twisted. I have 2 sets of 4 and they work well. I don't leave them in while trailering. (never tried it)
Grant
got PVC sections screwed to the seat in mine... works pretty well. mine are a little farther apart than Harvey's, so line tangles really aren't an issue there... cost all of a couple bucks
PerchJerker
I have a glass boat with tempress fish on rod holders on rail mounts. I can point them vertically and use them to hold rods when running from place to place, then tilt them down horizontally for fishing. Works great. On a previous boat I had some berkely rod tubes, there were 3 mounted in a series, and they worked great as well.
davesfriend
I have 2 sets of four mounted on the front of my rear casting deck. Have traveled shorter distance with them loaded. No tangles, my biggest concern would be a pheasant or something snappin them off. Just the plastic white ones from cabelas. Sure is nice to have a place to put 8 trolling rods when you are cleaning up at the end of a run.
Sandmannd
I just got a plastic one from fleet. They work good, but like Harvey said, put your rods down for long runs.
traveler
I run with mine in the verticle holders all the time...I can't see them going anywhere, the whole handle goes into the tube. maybe I wouldn't do it with really light rods, but with my muskie/pike rods it's no issue at all.
