Anyone use the big plastics?

Recommended Posts

I am growing more and more interested in the swim bait style plastics from storm for fishing pike. Mainly the Kickin' Minnow and the Kickin' Slabs. I have used the swim shads last year with some success, but I am wondering if anyone has used these other baits or similar baits.

I prefer just riggin up my own plastics as opposed to the ones like the Kickin minnows and stuff. Just fish like you're aggressively trying to catch a bass, but use big plastics. Works for me.

Those realistic custom rigged plastics can get pretty pricy, considering most of the time a big twister tail will produce just as well.

I probably have as many reg sized Dawgs as I do Mags. Take a trip to Mille Lacs and work the weeds in the south bays with a Reg Dawg and you'll have a crack at really nice pike, like 40+ inchers.

I have a couple of the Storm Kickin' Minnows but really haven't given them much time. Lots good said about them, they do produce. At $6 a piece, pretty easy to pick up a couple to try.

I've heard lots of good things about them, only downside is durability, but at $6 a pop, I'll trade one for a nice fish or two out of one, pike or muskie!

My nephew took a few in the Shad color down to Lake Fork in Texas last week, I'll ask if he did anything with them and let y'all know.

The March issue of In-Fisherman has a nice article on biats for pike & muskies both. Featured is the Storm kickin' Minnow, imagine that!

Good article, covering jigs, the chatterbaits, and smaller stickbaits like Xraps & Smithwick Rogues, it's a good read.
