Mr. Pike1
Mykal, Alphid, brother of Alphid, Chemist we may want to think about this get together on the shoe. I am looking forward to some nice days on this body of water slaying the cats. Last year was fun even though I did not get out as much as I would have liked but I very much enjoyed the times we did hit the hard water.

Uncle Grump
DennisI'm definitely interested - will have to check the calendar, etc. What sort of tackle would a person need to take cats on? Would a Genz Med heavy rod (bait caster style) and a Ambass. 4600 w/10# test line be in the ballpark?ThanksUG
catchin'whopper
Alphid and I have used med-hvy 30-36" poles, with spinning gear with 8 pound test. line diameter is not really a big deal from past experience.we also just use any normal walleye ice fishing jig, but one with a bigger size hook, since we use cut bait like sucker on the hook. bigger hook allows you to have the bait on but also hook the fish when it bites. ...And i guess some sinkers just to get the bait down a little faster. Dead sticking seems to work a little better sometimes, but you are just watching teh vexilar for fish to swim in the area and inhale the bait.Pretty simple, but fun. The fight is great when the fish are 30+feet down and fighting all the way up. You get to test your abilities at using your drag and back reeling!-Catchin'
Dennis Steele
I have to agree with whopper. Its not too complicated.I just use a med or med heavy rod spooled up with 8lb test.Play them slow and you should have no problem.I think any walleye sized jig or ice lure tipped with some bait will take some cats.Last year we had great success with Scenic Tackles Glow Devils in the chartruese/orange.We tipped them with half a shiner. This year I got a tip from Backwater Eddy that tubes can be hot.I am going to order some Ring-N Tubes and stuff them with Bio Bait from Catch-N Tackle, throw it in the water and see if it flies, swims or whatever. NIce cats!! [This message has been edited by Dennis Steele (edited 11-20-2003).]
Mr. Pike1
I have yet to see a reply from Chemist. I hope he is still on the board. Wow, I can't believe the ice season almost upon us. I can't wait. I might even bring the old man out to this area on a trip. He turned me on to fishing as a youngster and was the first to take me out on a boat, on the ice, and I did not take him out with me once on the ice last year. I think he would very much enjoy a nice cat on the end of a medium action rod in 30 ft.
