IMO Starting QB is not a need, a good veteren would be huge.

If we got a DE in Free Agency...a DE would still be a # 1 need through the Draft...

The NFL is won at the lines...Defensive and Offensive.

Yep a vet QB and a decent DE would be awesome. I'm pulling for the freak or for Taylor. WE have the middle sewn up pretty good already. We need someone to chase down Aaron Rogers. HAHA!!!!!!!

You mean like a Kelly Holcomb, or a Brooks Bollinger, or say a Koy Detmar 2 day trial, I would not take a QB early in the draft. However, I would not be opposed to finding a decent QB like a Sage R., Lohsman, Carr, etc. I cannot believe that Childress is allowed to continue his 3 year experiment with T Jack. He's clearly not an NFL qb. I'm not saying Carr or Lohsman are either but I find it hard to believe that they would have any less success then T Jack.

Eebs - how clear is he not an NFL qb? Since hes in the news heavily right now. Brett Favre was clearing not an NFL qb either...in the eyes of the Falcons. I would assume you aren't being paid to judge NFL talent...what are your clear cut reasons he can't cut it? We can leave out his overall winning record as a starter if you want...

t-jack 07 numbers (12 games) - 70 qb rating, 58.2% compl., 1900 yards, 12 scores (9pass,3run), 15 TOs(12 picks, 3 fumbles), 260 yards rushing (think of all his receivers dropped balls, at least 2-3 sure tds)

carr 07 numbers (6 games) - 58 qb rating, 53.7% comp, 635 yards, 3 score (3 pass), 5 TOS (5 picks), 5 yars rushing (he had steve smith to throw to...)

losman 07 numbers (8 games) - 76.9 qb rating, 63.4% comp, 1200 yards, 4 Scores (4 pass), 8 TOs (6 picks, 2 fumbles), 110 yards rushing (he had lee evans to throw to)

The upside of T-Jack is big. Carr and Losman have proved over and over again that they are not really better than one Brooks Bollinger.

I say we need to quick hating on T-Jack like everyone hated on D-Culp...lets give the Kid a chance. He did QB this team to 5 straight wins last year...2 games w/out rookie of the year...

Lets say he was able to win 1 or 2 of the last games...I wonder what the tune of #7 would be then. Rookies* usually don't quarterback their team to 7 straight and into the playoffs

You can say that T Jack won 5 games in a row. But can you really? Its not that hard to take a snap turn and give the ball to someone. And to say that Carr and Loshman are proven Brooks Bollingers is not a very valid statement. Quarterbacking at Minnesota was not a hard task last year. #1 rushing team, #28 passing. No receiver was double covered all year, and yes im aware we need help at the receiver position but I can't wait any longer with this Jackson Experiment. What do we do if he sux again this year.........give him another year? Just deal with it? We need another QB. Period. At least to put some pressure on TJack.

Ok ok. so bring in Carr of the nfls 29th worst passing team...Maybe bring in losman of the nfls 30th worst passing team.

Give T-jack steve smith or lee evans and i would guarantee you we wouldn't be 28th

EEBS, sure I would take a good QB anyday, if yo ucan talk one into coming here. Go see if Tom Brady will come play for us, How about one of the Maning boys, Romo? Who do you have in mind, that will take over our team that is available and would come hear? Im sure if we offerd AP we could get a trade for a good QB, but do you want that? Im open for suggestions, I am sure if you can strike a good deal with another team for a good QB, Im sure the Vikings front office would listen.

now your just being ridiculous...i said i would like to see a decent veteran to come and challenge T Jack for a spot. And for your trading away AD comment, thats just you being regardless. Do you want me to say that I'm happy with Brooks Bollinger backing up T Jack as our ever dangerous and powerful quarterback tandem?

No thank you. But I do like the idea of getting Brady or one of those Manning boys. Preferably Peyton.

Interesting debate going here.... I think it is pretty tough to judge T-Jax at this point. He has only been in the league two years... technically he has only played in enough games to account for one full season(you could question durability here) BUT... He had NO ONE TO THROW TO! I know you state none of them were double covered... but with our WR's they couldn't beat one on one(Not TJAX's fault)....If he sucks again you have to look elsewhere. I'm not against drafting a QB at some point this year just for insurance, but if you look elsewhere this year or next it needs to be someone who can step in and play. The team is built to win now(on a lot of levels at least). I am all for bringing in a veteran to back him up...but guys like Carr, Losman, etc. What do they do that gets everybody so excited. They may be better than Brooks Bollinger, but that isn't saying much. I think TJax will progress(I hope), but am not sure he is the answer. We shall see

Good Points - we are bringing a long a young QB and the fans need to be patient...he has shown signs of improvements.

Being the J. Kearse thread...Update

Kearse signed with the Titans today.

Next guy on the block...Corey Smith set up a visit i believe.

I wouldnt waste a draft pick on a QB, draft picks are too important and it would take a couple years for a QB to develop. I would however take Colt Brennan in the 5th or 6th round, I guess his stock is slipping because scouts dont like his release. I do agree that TJack has some upside but from the start I disagreed with Chili's "he is our quarterback and we will ride him into the sunset" from the start. This is a win NOW team. The next two years are key for us. And being that whoever has to QB for the vikings doesnt have to do a whole lot, (I'm pretty sure we can all agree with that), I feel a good/descent backup is needed. We have the worst quarterback options in the league....Period

I think the talent of the available DE are getting thin. Its almost time to see if someone is willing to make a trade. If they can get an allstar DE for a 1st and a 3rd pick, lets do it! But lets make it next years first, and this years 3rd!

I agree Sage would be my #1, Lohsman probably #2 and Carr a close #3, anything is an upgrade in my opinion. If TJack is our golden child as many people believe, what if he gets hurt. Who do we turn to. 5 foot 9 bollinger. He's no Flutie.

I dont think to many people think he is our Golden Child, but I think he needs the chance to prove himself, he has what 15 games under his belt, has better then .500 record, showed some good signs of improvement, had really nothing to work with! Not a golden child, just be patiant and give him a chance! I also think everyone here is with you on we need a good backup QB, even the Vikings know that. Something to drive T-jack to be better, and if he gets injured. Drafting one isnt going to help the team this year, trading away draft picks isnt a good idea either. Im sure there will be some decent backups released before the beggining of the season.

Agreed, Agreed, Agreed

Lets see what T-jack can do after only 14 starts under his belt. He's played in 16 games. His record is something like 7-5 or 7-6. Everyone knows we need a backup...should have 3 qbs on your roster.

Here is what im afraid of. TJack will go through the season not doing bad and not doing good but we will win games. His numbers will look like this 13-19 150 yards 1 TD 1 int. Our running game will carry us through the season and into the post season. Then when we need a QB we will be counting on him. I dont like our chances. I know we dont have any other options at this point, but what I'm hearing is that we need to give him a chance. I say we gave him a chance and he's not ready. Put him as back up and let him develop and then if he's ready let him play. I dont know if you guys are blind or what but I hate to break it to you he sucks! Plain and simple. I dont think anyone available right now is our answer, so we are going to have to roll with him. So we are forced to play him unless we get someone.

Not a bad plan...there is no buddy available worth acquiring that I think is better than T-jack...

if he goes 13-19 i have no problem trusting him with the keys to chili's offense!

I do think he will have more throwing tds this year. Berrian will get 6-8. Rice will have 5-7 Wade will have 2-4. Shianc dog will have 1-3. RBs will combine for 5-7. I could easily see T-Jack have low 20's tds in the air.

Shianc dog should stay home on Sundays! I hope your right.

go twins: "Delmon Young, also new to the Twins, went 3-for-3 with a two-run single in the first. He is hitting .615 (8-for-13) this spring after coming over from Tampa Bay in a trade." -espn.com

bollinger is bunk...the thing i don't like is there is no competition at qb...the old veteran qb's with their arms ready to fall of on the next throw are bunk too.

the starting job is just handed to tjack...i'd like to see a qb in here that can atleast compete for the job...if tjack beats him out then thats what we do...if the new qb beats out tjack then thats what we do.

atleast a competition steps up your game even more...pushes you harder to be a leader and forces you to be a better player.

i know if tjack happened to get hurt for a few games, half a season or even a full season i'd hate to know we are looking for bollinger to take over....or last yrs case some old guy like holcomb.

i'm all for giving tjack a full yr...but i'd like to see some healthy comp for him to win the job and improve his all around game in the process.

i wouldn't waste a high draft pick on another qb we have to develop or trade the farm away for another qb.
