Polaris Sportsman hard to shift.

Can anyone tell me why its so hard to get my ATV into gear, neutral and reverse?

Maybe belt drag because of a clutch problem....or maybe a linkage that is in need of some lubrication? Any other symptoms such as it trying to creep forward at idle?

It does creep forward if you don't hold the brake. Just picked it up this weekend, its a new 400 H.O. Could the idle be to high? It runs great, but hard to get into gear.

My old 500 ho had like a ball joint located on rh side back tire, needs lubrication OFTEN,,

Sounds like possibly a high idle and/or a linkage adjustment.

I will bring it back to the dealer and have it checked out. I don't think it hurts anything, but I don't want to break the lever off. Its probbly something smiple. It sure can't be normal going into gear this hard. Else everyone would be complaining.

High idle will do that. Try adjusting it lower or just bring it in and let them handle and check everything out.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I had the same trouble with my 500 Sportsman. The guy that does work on my wheelers had to shim out the clutch. It was slightly out of line. The machine has been shifting great after that.

Hopefully they came up with an answer for you at the dealership today.

They lowered the idle and it shifts good now.

glad to hear it was nothing major. Often times these are more delaer set-up issues than it is manufacturer.
