jigging tip-ups? do they work?

i got one of those jigging tip-ups for christmas this year i havnt had the courage to try it out yet? anyone have any luck/problems?

They work pretty well for lake trout on warm days!

On cold days the holes freeze over and they cannot jig your bait because the line is frozen into the ice.

Remember they are not legal in MN. I have never tried one out but got to imagine they would help for bait that is not so lively.

They are legal in MN as long as it only jigs (much like a buzz stick) and does not set the hook.

I purchased one at Gander Mountain last year. I can't remember what brand, but it was blue and required a "D" cell battery. That being said, it was also a complete POS and waste of 20 bucks. I hope others that try them have better luck than I did.

Self jigging and wind tip ups are legal in Mn. As stated earlier as long as its not a self hooking type your ok.

I feel the same way as skee. The first couple times i used it last year it worked the same as any other tip up, nothing special. But now whenever the temp is below 10 degrees it won't work worth a [PoorWordUsage] for longer than 5 minutes. Plus the noise they make gets really annoying after a while. Save your money and buy a regular one for 8 bucks.
