Fishing with a child

I've got a question that I didn't find the answer to in reg booklet.

I am going to take my 5 year old fishing this afternoon and want to know if he is legally allowed 2 lines. So together we can have 4 lines total for the 2 of us.

Yes, he doesn't need a license until he's 16 but can keep a limit and use two rods while on the ice.

The same rules apply to kids under 16 as they apply to adults, only difference-they don't need a license.

Yep, that's how we do it when I bring one of the kids. It's hard to keep them from charging out when the flag pops up.

This could be a little tricky if the CO is watching. You can only fish with two lines each. If you have two tip ups out and you are each tending a line in the fish house, that means one of the tip ups would have to be the five year olds. Which would mean you cannot tend both of the tip ups. One of them the five year old would have to run to and get the fish. You could assist the child in landing the fish at the hole but it would actually have to be caught by the child.

I would think it would be more fun to let the little one catch the fish on the tip up anyway. But yes, it is perfectly legal to fish that way. I would let my little boy handle all the tip ups if he wanted to, watching a kid race to one is a lot of fun.
