Rapala Subwalk

I was watching the Lindner's show a couple of weeks ago and saw a cool new lure--and open water. Have any of you folks with access to new lures tried the Rapala Subwalk? Its claim to fame seems to be that it gets those fish to strike a foot or two below the surface that maybe wouldn't hit the surface lure. Let's hope global warming gets the ice out of here a little sooner this year.

I'm just gettin into bass fishin and all the different lures, but doesnt the X-rap do pretty much the same thing???? Just curious

The x-rap dives 4-5 ft and is a jerkbait type lure, while the sub walk is actually a walk the dog type topwater bait that instead of staying on the surface dives down a ft or two.

You look like a musky guy. The sub walk is similar to a smaller version reef hawg, eddy, or jerko in the musky world. works more like a glide bait, I would assume.

I used the subwalk last year and it's an awesome bait. Besides not going as deep as an x-rap, it has a more subtle action. The big things about it are the way it rolls and the way it sinks head first. It's especially effective when fish come up and slap at topwaters, but don't seem to really want to eat it.

Then how is it different than the Twitchin' bait that Rapala puts out?

Do you mean the Twitchin' Rap?

If so, I have seen the twitchin' rap have a much larger and more exaggerated movement under the water. The subwalk has a fairly tight walk, just under the surface. You can watch vids of both actions on Rapala's HSOforum.

I haven't caught any bass on the twitchin' rap, but have got some dandy northern on it.

This is the first lure I've been excited about in a long time. Can't say for sure but it looks like this fills a really nice niche for shallow water bass, especially smallmouth in rivers.
