Vexilar Problems

Recommended Posts

I am having some problems with my vexilar and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems. Originally, I thought both of my batteries were shot and that was the problem but i had both tested and while one is low the other on still had around 11 volts. After like ten minutes of use, the screen starts flashingand spinning around. It usually has around three extended bars and they just keep going around in circles. I dont think it is the batteries because it never really dims or loses power. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Also check the length of transducer cord that you have out. If its too short or to long you can pick up interference. I run mine right at the base of the hole. The spinning tells me that your interference needs to be adjusted as CrappieKeith mentioned. Aren't electronics fun.....good luck. Bill

I think a 12 volt battery should test a little over 12 volts fully charged, not 11 volts. Maybe someone else with more expertise will chime in with the voltage a 12 volt battery should have fully charged.

Try a new transducer. I had trouble with mine and I bought a new one and it works great. Had a buddy come over last week for me to look at it. His was doing what your talking about. I hooked my transducer to his and it worked great. I believe that when you reel up a fish and your line wraps around the cord your making tiny lacerations in the cord and moisture is interfering with the signal. Just my oppinion. Try a friends transducer first before buying a new one.

Your battery is still dead or almost dead at 11 volts. Here is what the charge on your battery should read a day after you charge it. The reason you have to wait is battery chargers will charge a battery as high as 14 volts and it takes a few hours for the battery to finally stabilize after the charge

* 12.70 volts 100%

* 12.50 volts 90%

* 12.42 volts 80%

* 12.32 volts 70%

* 12.20 volts 60%

* 12.06 volts 50%

* 11.90 volts 40%

* 11.75 volts 30%

* 11.58 volts 20%

* 11.31 volts 10%

* 10.50 volts 0%

If you have a set of jumper cables try and figure a way to hook it to your car battery and test it that way. If the battery will start a car it should have a good charge on it.

i agree with hubcat, in the vexilar dvd they call it wetting the transducer, just rub the bottom of it on your bibs.

also when your jumping from hole to hole checking dephs, or for fish, a thin layer of ice can build up(it can be difficult to see even) and can take a little while to melt itself off under water.

the other thing i see with mine is just shutting it off and starting over helps too, again in the dvd they recomend when you turn it off or jump holes

1. shut it off

2. turn your gain to low or off

3. if you have zoom turn it to full, day

4. then turn everything on and start the process of finding your dephths, setting your gain then zooming in

Ive been doing this every time and i get a much more clear reading then my dad with the exact same vex

good luck with it, my new fl-20 gives me a headache once and a while too

Thanks for all the input!!!!! I am thinking that it is my battery after I contacted vexilar and they said the same things thing you guys were saying. A charged 12 volt battery should have between 12.8 and 13.2 volts. Also one day when I was on the ice I used a regular 12 volt battery from my buddies house and it worked all day. Also I am leaning toward the battery because the problem will happen even if I leave it run at home, with no ice or water problems. I will get a new battery and hopefully that will solve the problem.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
