Otter Lodge Vs Trap X2

Recommended Posts

Been thinking of getting a new Trap X2. I already have an Otter Lodge with bench seat.

The wife and I were looking at the Trap last weekend. She liked the two seats instead of the bench seat. She also liked the fact that the seats were lower and closer to the ice than the bench in the Otter.

The tub is smaller than the one on the Otter which means that I will have to downsize on what I take to the ice.

Some owners of the Trap say they are warmer than the Otter due to the type of material they use in flip over.

Any info would be appreciated. Should I spring for the Trap or keep going with the Otter. (I would keep the Otter for when the men folk go out.

The best investment I've made!! I've had many comments on it wwhen I've had it out on the ice, all good. Yes it is a bit heavy but with will there is a way to be comfortable. I have a wheeler but I have only used it one time to pull my X2 on the ice. It is still the most comfortable (sp) shack i have fished out of.

harleyharry-

Why not just buy a couple Otter seats for your Lodge. Would seriously be the cheapest way to accomplish your goal unless you are looking at buying another house.

The Otter swivel seats have their own seat brackets, and are much closer to the ice than the Otter Bench. I've fished out of both plenty of times and I seriously like the seats better as my feet touch the ice, the seats are probably 3-4" closer to the ice than the bench seat is.

If you did that, you would get the close to the ice seat your wife likes, along with having more storage room in the Otter tub, while saving money by not buying a new house.

Both shacks are going to heat equally the same.

Just something to consider...

I agree save the $ and just get 2 Otter seats. Much lower than the bench and padded and swivel. Much cheaper than buying a new house.

The heat thing is very minumal from what I have experienced. The size of the house is a bigger factor and the Otters are a bit taller if I remember right. I can stand in my mag lodge but not in a X2.

Plus... with the money you saved, you could buy another flasher, or camera, or more beer, or more wheeler accessories, or more rods, or more beer, or mods for your Otter, or tackle, or more beer, or... jeesh... I can't think of anything more.... maybe we should have a sudsy and think about it grin.gif

Thanks guys. I love the input. I really wanted to buy a new portable, but you all have changed my mind.

Since there seems to be little difference in heating the two portables, I think I will order the seats and brackets. This will give me a good down payment on the new Lowrance 522c I have been wanting.

What do you do with the seats when the sled is in transport mode. The bench folds down and is nice and flat. Do you just fold down the seats and install the cover, or do the seats have to be stored in the sled for transport?

Welcome to IceLeaders/FM Harry

The seat backs ride just above the top of the sled when they are folded down, but the cover fits over nicely. This past weekend I think I had my Lodge stuffed with 4 guys gear, flashers, cameras, weeds, rod cases, minnow buckets heaters, etc... everything fit fine and the cover even went over nice. I couldn't believe all the gear that was in there.

I think you made a good decision. Save the money for other toys grin.gif
