Navionics chip

I would like to purchase an 08' navionics chip since it has a lot of lakes on it that I fish that the lakemaster does not have. I have heard that the accuracy is not that great with navionics(points are off by 100 feet) and it does not allow you to zoom in as far as a lakemaster. Any feedback on the subject is appreciated.

I just got an 08 Navionics chip, used it twice so far. It is much better on the Croix than the Lakemaster chip, kinda blew me away. I used it tonight on Big Marine; I think it is better than the high definition Lakemaster map for that lake too. I didn't drill a ton of holes, but did find a slight dip in a spot that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Also noticed a few other spots I will be trying that aren't represented on the Lakemaster map. I didn't find an issue with the zoom limitation.

I've been wondering about the same thing and all responses seem to be the same...about 50/50. I called lakemaster and asked them a few questions like when their 08 chip will be out and what changes would be on it and they couldn't tell me since lowrance does their chips, but of course the guy from lakemaster said their chips are more detailed and way more accurate so I'm going to scheels tomm and talk to my buddy there, he said he will put both chips in two different color depth finders side by side and let me decide so I'll post either fri night or sat, granted this will only be my own personal decision but im a pretty picky person when it comes to spending money

I'll be looking for your post since i have the exact same questions. I also heard/read about the accurracy of both chips, wondered how there could be so much difference? I recently purchased the H20 BW and am wanting to get a chip for it but am confused with all the conflicting reports i hear. Let me know what your trial run comes up with! Shoot me an E-mail so we don't start a war over what product is better, just looking for someone elses opinion. Thanks, ole

Some of the accuracy issues may have to do with the gps finding sattelites, on the one screen it shows the EPE and tells about how much it could be off.

I have been using the Navionics 08 chip and so far it seems to be right on the spot. It doesn't zoom in as far with the chip as it does without the chip on. I don't think the lack of zoom matters too much with icefishing. However, I use the gps in open water and it could be more difficult to no where you are at. For instance, I have a number of points saved that I can read just fine without the chip on when zoomed all the way in, but with the chip on the are really tight.

There's obviously a couple things to remember with our High Def Lake Map chips in general...

- They are pretty darn accurate but the survey boats can't catch everything. The lakes are surveyed by running a grid across the lake and their computers are left to interpret the data and depth from pass to pass to pass. Lots of guys actually like this as they are finding their "spot on the spots" weren't found by the survey crews. ;\)

- Recreational GPS accuracy is nowhere near where we'd like it to be in regards to accuracy. 30' accuracy seams pretty common to me on the good side, I've seen it much worse as well. When you are moving at higher rates of speed, accuracy improves as the satellites can detect you are changing position. If you are sitting in one spot for 5 minutes trying to figure out where a feature is, your accuracy is going to be terrible. Its best to move around a little bit to dial in the accuracy.

- Accuracy of contours on lakes that aren't 1' High Def vary wildly. Most of these maps were derived from other previously surveyed maps such as DNR maps or Hot Spots maps.

In regards to your question Ed. Yes, Lakemaster lets you zoom in much farther on their maps. I've definitely found this beneficial when contour trolling a new lake. Once I've made a few passes and learned the structure however, I just follow my trails after that but I do use the map chip as a guide when I start.

If you make it up to the Metro GTG II next weekend, I'll pop in both Nav & Lakemaster into my H20 so you can compare them. Might help with your decision.

I love my Navionics chip. I have the North chip. I have used it in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I seen that sometimes it's not spot on but it's most of the time spot on. Just have to do some searching in the general area. It a great tool but not fool proof. Nothing is.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
