How much propane??

cold one sd

Recommended Posts

I had my 6 1/2' x 12' wheel house on a lake in NE SD the Friday and Saturday after Christmas. I have an Empire 15k direct vent heater in it. I started the heater at 1 pm on Friday and shut it off at 3 pm an Saturday when we headed off of the lake. I filled the propane tank this afternoon and it only took 4 lbs. Is this about the same amount that you guys with the same size house use or is my wheel house very well insulated? confused.gif

I took a week off last year and spent 9 days in the wheelhouse. Several nights were -30 on Winnie and Cutfoot lakes. Used up 1 20# tank and about 1/2 of another. House was 75 degrees inside so 100 degrees warmer than outside.

I have a forced air furnace in my 6 1/2 X 14

If you think you are not using enough propane open a window grin.gif

On the serious side I have a wheeled house the same size of yours and the same size furnace.

I keep the heat running in the fish house when it is parked in my drive way and I can get about 4+ days on 20 pound tank, the temperature is set at 75.

I would not be afraid if my house was over insulated.

It seems like I am in the ball park anyway. I have heard guys talking about having 2 20 lb tanks and running out on a weekend and it seemed like a lot to me.

IcePro, I don't need to open a window. My son is in and out so much it seems like we have a revolving door sometimes. grin.gif

mshs1, Why don't you get another 20# tank, and a auto switchover regulator? That way, when 1 runs out, it switches to the other and you can take #1 in and fill it. I have 40# cyls on my house with the same set-up and it's really slick. The regulator I'm refering to is available from Fish house supply.com. One of the sites sponsors and their service is Great!!
