outfishedagain
just wondering what everyone else thought about the archery regs stating that a 40lb min. is needed after going to a 35lb. for deer?I'm still on the fence about the 35lb for deer, but just found this to be very interesting. snapjigger
It is actually 30Lbs for big game. I Emailed them because the regs still show 40 lb's for Turkeys and I wanted my 9 yr old to hunt this spring. I was told That the min weight for turkeys is still 40 lb's. With todays equipment and the newer sharper broadheads I dont see 30 lb's being an issue. It all comes down to shot placement and knowing what you can get out of your equipment.30 lb's and a very short draw length may require a 2 blade cut on contact head and limited to 20 yds. Just have to know the limits..

Do you suppose they just forgot about the weight change in regards to turkeys? Why else would they have not changed this as well?
Jameson
One of the reasons given for lower the draw weight for deer was the need for more deer hunters. As the DNR is still trying to enlarge the turkey range in MN, I don't see them making many changes to increase the number of turkey hunters at this time. snapjigger
No the officer said the change was made for Big Game only.
Borch
Actually Turkey is managed as Big Game in Minnesota as well as many other states. The reg changes for deer hunting often lag behaind a year or two, (Sometimes more)in the turkey regs. You'll find the regs are very simuliar if you compare them.
