Satellite Dish... Can anyone help a guy out?

I'm having problems installing a satellite dish on the fish house. The guy from Dish Network said a box isn't necessary. Well I don't know what he was thinking, but clearly a box is necessary. So now I'm stuck taking the box from my home TV.

All he gave me was the Dish and some wiring. Which outlet do I plug the wiring into on the Dish? There are three outlets that the wire would fit in, two of the on the left side reading "1" and "2", and the plug-in on the right said says "In".

I'm just taking the HD/DVR receiver from the basement without unplugging anything. Is that all I need? Just the box with those connections to the TV, and one single wire to connect the box to the Dish?

Thank you very much for your help. You can either reply here or send me an e-mail at [email protected].

Well, I didnt pull my DVR out and look at it, but I am fairly certain the cable from the dish goes to the "In" connector on the DVR and your TV should be connected to "1".

Check around with folks you know that have Dish. A lot of times when you upgrade to a DVR you get to keep your old receiver. Also try the internet auction sites, you can usually find something pretty cheap if you are just lookin for a receiver.

Good Luck, and Merry Christmas!

The dish 1 and 2 are the outputs to your receiver, use 1.

The 'in' connection is if you have a 2nd satellite dish to pick up other satellites.

So, you have coax going to the dish on '1' and then going to the 'Sat' connector on your reciever. Then connect your reciever to the TV. There are many ways to do this, and it depends on your TV.

1 and 2 are the the inputs from the Satellite Dish if you are just going to use 1 cable I would suggest using #1, "in" is for an OTA antenna or Cable TV which you won't be using.

You may have to redo your satellite setup and select 1 Tuner or you may get the "searching for satellite on 2" nag.

Like stated above how you hook up your TV to the Satellite Box will depend on your Fish house TV you could use a Coaxial cable if the TV has that input or you may use RCA or RGB cables depending on.

Getting the satellite aligned will be your biggest concern IMO.

I have my dish mounted on a piece of wood and it sits on the ice/snow you probably have it mounted on your Fish house?

The key will be having your mast sturdy and level along with your Dish being set up with the correct azimuth and elevation these numbers can found by entering the Zip code from the area you will be fishing, in the Dish setup process.

Bring the Satellite Receiver's manual with for sure.

I think I get it now guys. I'm sure it will take me time to get the elevation and all that right. We're going up to Upper Red on Wednesday, so I thought I'd get this all straightened out so that we can have satellite TV too!

Thanks for the help.

Do you need an extra box? Are they all the same. Seems I have acouple extra around some where.Luck out and now on DSL.We're in the country. That's having a GOOD phone company. jps

If you ever sell or give away a box you need to call the provider and give them the new owners name. The box is registered in your name and the provider will not activate the box without you doing that. Found out the hard way when I bought a dish and box for the cabin from a buddy.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
