MrCarp:

I would highly recommend the VS380 from Marcum. It has a 7-inch rugged black/white CRT monitor utilizing a Sony Super HAD CCD camera. The optics are top-notch and used in many surveillance and security applications. The softpack it comes in has an built-in sun-shield. It's a bit above your price range at $249.99, but the 7" screen along with the higher end optics are premium features.

Below is a link to a pic of the unit, so as not to increase your download time on dial-up.

i just found one on the popular auction site brand new for $58.00 + 20.00 s/h. this is the conclusion i came to.cabelas sells 2 cameras under there name but i think marcum makes them for them. i compared the auction camera to cabelas and i cant tell the differance except the the monitor may be a earlyer version and does not have a small sticker on it, i think it said vs350.this is the one cabelas is selling for $179.00. 7" monitor with 65'cable. these are brand new but dont include the battery, charger or carry bag but i have a extra battery and charger for my vex anyway. as far as the carry bag i dont need one since it will be kept in my wheel house anyway.in case you want to check it out#300183585196.these words are just my opinion so dont take them as fact.

Sounds to me like you should take a look at the Cabela's camaras. I do belive the 5.5 is a Marcom and for $119.00 I don't think you can beat it. The reason I would go with that 10 out of 10 times over an internet buy is customer service. If I have a problum I want to be able to take it somewhere and replace it. Just my 2 cents.

The camera Humpback was talking about looks like it could be a good deal. It makes me a little nervous, since no brand name or anything is mentioned. What makes you think it is the same as the Cabelas camera? Also, anybody have an idea for a carrying case for that?

EDIT: Nevermind what I said before. I just ordered the 7" camera from Cabelas. It's in the one shot deals section today for $119. That's the same price as their 5.5" screen that everyone seems to like, so I figured what the heck. By the time I bought a battery for that hsolist camera, and figured something out some type of carrying case, I probably wouldn't have saved much money.

go to the nature vision HSOforum (makers of aqua vu) I was just there tooling around yesterday and they had a clearance/markdown section. they had an aqua vu scout 50 for $149 I believe.

I just purchased a reconditioned unit from them off hsolist for $118 shipped from Brainerd. so far, I'm having issues with the battery (I think I got a bad one) but the unit works well.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
