How do I plow

Dumb question I know, but I have an atv plow as well as an old plow truck to clear my large yard, (about an acre or more) I find I leave more of a mess than anything when I plow. do any of you experts have any advise, or tricks of the trade??

Angle the blade about 3/4 of the way and make several small manageable windrows across the property. Then start pushing the windrows up a little at a time into piles. When you have a bunch of small fingers of crumbs left, Angle your blade about half way and start working them into the piles and back to the center at the same time from both sides. Repeat the process until finsihed. It takes time, but you will get it and it will look good. Snow plows on pickups were never really about being quick as much as clean. Don't try to pile too high. About 6 feet is the limit before you start getting stuck on the piles.

And move the snow further than you think you need to. If you don't, your driveway will be half a car wide by the time winter is over.

Are you just trying to clear a lane or are you opening a large pad where you would push the snow to one location? When doing lanes I agree with angling the plow to the right and push using only half of the blade width. This allows any extra snow that can't flow out the side to stay on the blade rather than flowing off to the left into the area that has already been cleaned.

If you're clearing a large area that you would be pushing lots of snow to one area, then I would try to find the "wing" attachments for your plow. They create sides to hold the snow in better so that you can contain the snow while pushing it to the pile. It is possible to use a normal plow without sides, but it will double your plowing time with extra cleanup.
