Help for fellow FM'rs

Recommended Posts

After checking some of the post's last night, It got me to thinking. I don't want to try and make it look like this was my idea, it was actually a post from "anyfishaldo", but what does everyone think about possibly starting something up to help out fellow FM'rs. The post from "anyfishaldo" talked about an account set up just to kind of help out when s**t happens.

I'm just curious what others on here think, or if you got any ideas.

I'm not sure just how to get it to work the best, but people on here are always coming up with great ideas and I for one would be more than willing to help out.

So what does everyone think? What do ya got for ideas?

Thanks for your idea ANYFISHALDO!!!!!!!

While I feel for him and it sucks that his stuff was stolen I think we can all agree that ice fishing is a recreational sport. We are not fishing to feed our family.

For most of us, the amount of fish we catch will never catch up to what we pay for our equipment. I hate to see people getting money to replace their ice fishing equipment when there are others out there that could use that money more.

I don't want to sound cold about this. I had a tree stand (Ladder Type) stole about 40 yds from my house.

Just like he said that his items were stole from his garage at his house.

I would be the first to say I have spent too much money for fun, but this all it is, fun.

There are many familys out there with this bad ecomomy that don't even have a house to call a home for someone to steal toys from.

I don't think theres a need for a fund.

Again, I don't want to sound cold, I know this sucks for him! But there are many more people in need of more important things.

afishrmn,

Very noble post.

One tends to want to help some of the fellow F.M.'ers get back his fishing stuff and giving is a good thing (especially this time of year). I do not think this is the reason why people post post's like the one that was posted about the theft. I think it boils down to a good way to vent about a bad situation that one has no control over and spread the word to get their stuff returned. I think a reply back to his post, expressing concern and remorse for a fellow sportsman bad situation is almost as good as sending him $20. I know if I had been ripped off in some way, I would go threw my fazes and then post on FM about it. I would write a post just like the one that was posted yesterday (if I had stuff stolen) and would just love the positive responses back. I would never take money from anyone, I am just that way.

Now another way to help and still have fun at the same time is to offer to have the person in dierstraights to come along on your nest outing.

I sure like all the people on this site. Very little negative stuff occurs and 99.99999% every thing is positive. Its just a great place to vent and get a positive response back.

Anyone remember the thread from last year, when the guy went threw Chisago on a 4 wheeler and during the ordeal, had his 4 wheeler stolen and fishing gear. 95% of the responses to the poster where to help out by sending used equipment or cash. Some questioned the authenticity of the post, but most wanted to help. The original poster (I think never reasoned back) never asked for help, was just venting and spreading the would to help get his stuff back.

Now as far as to start a open deposit bank account (Like said above) there are many other things to donate money to this time of year, but I think you are a great person to offer. If you really want to send money, I would post e-mail address and see if he responds back. Then send him money.

What ever happens, it sucks when this stuff happens to a fellow outdoorsman.

Good luck!

P.S.

Ya Deb still has a long ways to go. The Burntside Bsah will be just a small dent in her bills but it will help.

Anyone who wants to donate to Deb wether cash or a prize donations send it to Surface Tension or Stfcatfish.

See all the details in the Bwca/Duluth forum. Thanks.

Just a little update about my controversial post that was brought up from last ice season. The 4 wheeler was not stolen. It ended up on the bottom and we were able to find it and retrieve it right after ice out. The whole process took us 2 hours tops and I think we found it within 30 minutes. It was an interesting experience dragging up a 4 wheeler with an anchor and then muscling it back to shore. It had about 10 tiny bluegills wedged up in it when we got it back to shore. I should see if I can get some pics of it after we dragged it out I think my friend has some. Of course none of the gear was recovered but what can you do. My friend and his dad were doubting this years ice fishing season at first but now they are fired up to get out again. Once again everyone who offered assistance THANKS! Oh and it was North Center. Everyone be careful this year!

jpaulson,

Thanks for the update. I read the post a month back when searching for sled mod pics. The thread ended, before the final outcome could come forth.

Good to hear they are not giving up and it shows bad things go away after time.

In a couple more years, you guys could probably have a good laugh over that deal. At least have a great story to tell for years to come.

You took the words out of my mouth Shack. I was going to type this same thing. I've met great people off this site and have made some close friends because of it. You can always post that you are looking for someone to fish with. Great opertunity to meet people.

I'm not sure why everyone responding is limiting this to the theft of ice fishing equiptment? It could certainly be used for medical issues or donations to less fortunate familys as stated earlier. The setting up of a fund was just an example of something that could be done. It could also be as simple as a group of FM'ers donating some of their time for different causes to help get FM's reputation out there, or to keep the sport growing with the younger generation. Maybe someone knows of upcoming events where help could be used in one way or another that fellow FM'rs would be interested in.

afishermn,

Your heart is in the right place!

I think the theft issue might be first on people's minds as it seems to be reported so much.

But I must bump this thread. As Northlander posted, there is someone in dire need of help from those who can spare. BWCAW-Duluth/Ely forum: Deb R. Bside Bash. Its tacked right at the top.

I think this is more aligned with your thoughts. But you have added other worthy reasons/ways also.

Thank you for thinking of others! cool.gif

An early reminder to all that visit / post on this forum to remember that criminals don't sleep !!!

I have been looking forward to the up-coming ice fishing season long before my hunting was over, so after seeing the forecast for this weekend why not call up my buddy and hit the ice for some early slabs. The plan was to meet up at 4:30 a.m. for a pot of coffee and a bowl of cigarettes, and then hit the lake, so I made sure that the preparing, checking and double testing everything was done well in advance. All thats left to do now is try and force myself to get a little sleep (yeah right.....on the first night before ice fishing) throw the loaded shack in the back of the truck, and hit the road right???

..........WRONG!!!!!!.........

I get up this morning only to find that some ?%*!?"%$ S.O.B. shanghide my stuff right out of my garage.

Now that I've talked to the sheriff to let him know I still got some slugs left over from deer hunting, and my insurance co. to verify my &?*%#$!" $1,000 deductable, I'm at my wits end. I'm hoping that someone will notice something. I cant stand the fact that I'm stuck here while some loser is probably planning a nice little outing with my stuff. Please keep an eye out for the following items........

1) Frabill Trekker 2-man shelter w/ 2 deluxe folding seats and cover.

2) Jiffy Stealth STX 8" auger (new blades as of Wednesday)

3) MarCum LX3 w/ the color upgrade and new battery

4) Aqua-Vu Scout w/ new battery

5) Blue Ice Armor Suit (coat and bibs) size large

6) 1 pair of Rocky Ice Stalker boots (size 11)

7) 1 pair of black Gore-Tex gloves (size large)

8) Mr. Heater, sunflower heater w/ 20# cylinder

9) Garmin E-Trex handheld GPS

10) 2 - Frabill Pro-Thermal Tip-Ups

11) 4 - St. Croix Premiere ice combos (2-24" ML & 2-28" M) in an HT rod case

12) An HT adjustable ice scoop and HT Gaff

13) Jigs, Sinkers, Bobbers and misc. tackle in a Frabill bucket

14) A West-Metro book of lake maps (many with GPS coord. added)

15) A small gas Weber grill

16) A green Paulin chainsaw (which is worthless because the engine is shot)

Thanks for any help.

P.S. everyone have a safe and productive time out on the ice this year, and remember to introduce a kid to the outdoors (we can always use more true sportsmen and sportswomen)

and then anyfishaldo post's this in another thread he started

Hey,

afishrmn,

Set up an care of account at your local bank so that ice fisherman and women can send a check for a couple of bucks (well worth the stamp) and we can beat the bastard that took your stuff.

I cannot stand people that steal.

I had my new bike I got for my 8th birthday stolen and then my college graduation present ( new Titleist DCI Black Irons) i actually got from my divorced parents who cannot speak to one another. I will watch for a post on Monday so i know where to send a few bucks to help you out!

and then in this thread you thread you started, you posted this.

I am sorry if we missed the point of this thread that we are on right now and starting thinking your point of view was about getting ripped off. I just thought that's where you were going with "when sh** happens".

Sorry!

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
