Late season's upon us...

It's here. Ice fishing is rapidly approaching and it's not yet Dec but the conditions are right. Got some tracking snow up north... should have some in the metro by wednesday and the mercury has taken a tumble. Time to get the wool bibs out! After the ice show Fri, I'll be heading to either Crosslake or Marcell in pursuit of some fresh tenderloins.

Who's still got tags left and where is the destination of choice for the late-season?

I'm still holding on to my buck tag and 2 bonus tags. I was a bit too optimistic on my management hunt and now I've got $52 in my wallet that I can't spend. I'm hoping to get another one at least, but my opportunities are small.

We'll see what happens.

The rut is in full swing where I live. Not sure if its the second phase or what, but its going strong!

I saw 8 deer this morning in an hour on stand, of which a couple were bucks chasing does. But I had to git to work, otherwise I would still be out there!

Last night I saw a dandy 9 pt chasing a doe after dark in my neighbors yard.

Game on NOW!

Must be a late doe or last years doe fawn in heat in your area... lucky dog you! Climbin down to head to work with the deer chasing in the woods would've been painful. I think I would have gotten the Flu real quick... Enjoy it while you can... it'll be over soon enough. The small woodlot I've been hunting has been DEAD. I haven't seen an antler in over 2 weeks. It'll be nice to get on some deer in the snow up north this weekend.

Driving outside of town yesterday I came across 2 good sized unpicked corn fields with some decent woods. I will be knocking on their doors sometime today and hopefully get out tonight before that storm hits. I have 0 degrees this morning at my house. Brrrrrr. I seen 6-10 inches of snow for my area with 12-14 inches for the St. Cloud area. After this storm they should take to the corn somewhat soon. I still have my all season buck tag left.

Yeah tonight and tomorrow morning should be good with the storm rolling in. I sat for a quick 45 minutes before work this morning but didn't see anything. Only a gray squirrel that took flight out of a wood duck house and fled into the darkness...

I hope you gain permission... that corn should be gold! I'll be heading up early tomorrow morning to the Crosslake area to scout and hopefully get on some deer. Sounds like 6-10" in the cities under optimal conditions and more north and west. I love being out in the woods in the snow. Best of luck Bill & to everyone else still on the chase!

Just got back from asking permission and no luck. All had other hunters on it. Seems like there is no other standing corn from Milaca to Elk River, or even picked corn for that matter. Everything seems to be plowed under. I got a month to find one!
