My ps3 plays ps2 games.Guitar hero`s 1&2 you need an adapter for the guitars though.

You can play PS 2 game on the PS3. I might be getting one for x-mass so i can play socom online!!

I heard the new ones that they dropped a $100 off wont play back to ps2, but the full priced ones do.

Correct. The new 40GB PS3 will not play the PS1 & PS2 games.
