Double Barrel
Is there much advantage going to a 36v battery. I have a 24v now and haven't had any problems. Just want some of your info.
Northlander
You will only need to go 36 volt if you arent getting enough power/speed out of your current bowmount. What size are you running now? What size and type boat? Im guessing you wont need 36 volts. The extra battery and weight in a 36 verses 24 is also a factor. ricqik
I hope they make a 150-200lbs thrust 48v one day.
Double Barrel
I'm thinking about going to a 18' Lund Pro V with a 150 Merc Verado.
Northlander
A 24 volt system in the 64 pound of thrust or up a tad will do ya fine. Get the 60" shaft though. The 54 is too short for the Pro V's in a chop. In my opinion I dont think you need a 36 volt system. The guy I got my 54" shaft, 24 volt 64 pound minnkota from had it on his 18' Pro V and went to the same set up but with the 60" shaft. Oh and get the auoto pilot. Then later the hand held co-pilot is a nice add on. Thatw ay you dont have to be by the foot pedal to control your speed and direction. Like when your netting a fish in the back of the boat for your partner. The Minnkota rep told me the new Universal Sonar on the bowmounts are much improved now. My 04 Minnkota had U.S. and it wasnt as good as having a transuder on the bowmount. You may want to think about both Universal Sonar and Auto Pilot on your new one. Double Barrel
I have a Minn Kota 74lb Power Drive and I love it. I have it on a 17ft Lund and I feel it has enough power. One thing that is nice I can run the remote from anywhere in the boat.
delcecchi
I have a 54" terova 24 volt on my 1775. It seems plenty long, although I don't normally fish much in big waves since I don't like getting beaten up. I haven't used the sonar yet, so can't comment on it. iffwalleyes
I had a 65 Lb 54" power drive on my prov it did just fine for me I always had it all the way down though as Northlander said 54 is maybe a bit too short. But I wanted to upgrade to US and Auto pilot and ended up getting a 60" shaft on it and it is a 70 lb motor and it is sweet. I had a buddy buy a new Power Drive this fall it was the same price for a 70# 60" shaft as it was for a 65# 60" so he went bigger. I don't believe you need a 36 volt it just makes for another battery that you have to find a place for plus the extra weight of the battery in the boat. Mike Walerak
I'm not doubing you Nortthlander, but I am not a fan of the auto pilot. I have replaced the compass(or whatever that thingy is) in mine a few times and have since gave up. I think it might be due to the fact that I am crashing waves on a regular basis and jarring it around. I am a fan of the copilot option though. I don't have it but have fished with many that do and absolutly love it. I told my wife it would make a good stocking stuffer! My next trolling motor will be a cable driven one. No more broken foot pads. That being said I run a 1900 Pro-V and have a 24V 65lb thrust and a sixty inch shaft. It has been great for what I use it for. If the waves get too big I switch to the kicker motor. I also have a transome mount 65 lb thrust motor for backtrolling and that also has planty of power. If the wind too strong for it you won't want to be in the back of the boat running it anyway.mw
Northlander
I like the auto pilot especially when Im jigging two rods up front and I cant get a hand to the co pilot control. I also like auoto pilot so Im not always correcting because of wind. Especially when tieing nots or getting fish in and out of the net.
