Thorne Bros service

I live in the middle of nowhere. The advantage is it's nice and quiet and I can shoot animals in my back yard. The disadvantage is if I need to buy something it's a serious road trip to get there. Internet shopping is an option but the face to face service factor is gone.

This summer at the portable mod get together at Thorne Bros I was going to buy a couple of bait casting rods. I'm standing there eyeballing a few of them, thinking I have it figured out, and along comes one of the store employees. We chat and I quickly realize I was about to buy the wrong stuff. The rods I ended up buying were acutally cheaper, and a better fit for me.

Fast forward to last week. I want to get a few things for the upcoming ice season. I jump on Thorne Bros web site and do some shoppin. I had a few questions so I picked up the phone, called them, and all questions answered. Once again, I almost got the wrong stuff. I made my order and it was at my house in 2 days. I didn't spend extra for fast shipping, it just arrived that fast!!!

In this day and age where quality products and customer service seem to be low on many companies totem poles, they sure are high on the Thorne Bros priority list. Quality products, great service, and a competitive price. I don't want to sound like a commercial but when I get poor treatment, I tell people. When I get great treatment, I tell people.

Well said! I live alot closer to gander mt. but I would rather drive alittle farther to go to Thorne Bros. My Experiences there were thumbs up! they are second to none in service, Everone seems to really know there stuff over there, and I like how they have certain items that you cant find in other stores.

They don't have enough variety in muskie lures though wink.gif

They were the only place that had my Otter bench seat last year, and they had good deals at the Mod Event this summer. Friendly place, where you can chat with other folks over a cup of coffee or Diet Coke like you were in a hunting shack or cabin.

They've always fixed me up good. It's like Hardware Hank vs. Home Depot, the value is in the customer service, knowledge and skill. I live in North Minneapolis, a hop skip and jump from Thorne Bros, and I love it.

Plus Bob's grocery store is right up the street from them, and they are great as well. Tasty food, good service, great meat counter.

Then Vado's Bait is about a mile to the East. Best bait I know of, it's very rare I ever get even a single bum minnow. Generous scoops as well.

Top notch crew over there, no doubt. I'll be back a few more times. I had to run before I could drool on some jigs, boxes, and rods on my dream list. And I sure would look good in a Thorne Sweatshirt with a Thorne stocking or baseball cap. I hope my wife is reading and can stop in on "Black Friday"

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
