Pohlad dropping all salary

Here's my thoughts on the Twins.

They aren't going to spend anymore money.

They're going to dump as much salary as possible, meaning Hunter and Santana are gone.

Carl's only "World Series" left to win was a new stadium.

Dump salary, take in as much revenue with the new stadium, and just before attendance completely drops off, dump the team, either to his son(s) or highest bidder.

The current ownership group strictly runs it like a business, meaning no monies from other businesses to support it. What it makes, is what it makes.

The last thing they had to do was get a new stadium and now that's been "won".

Just get as much money back, and either dump the team, or go back to the mid 90's.

Just another opinion. What if they did sign Hunter and Santana for another three or four years. You would have them around for the opening of the new stadium plus a year. If they kept up the level of play, they'd be up for Rocky Mountain size piles of money. If not, they'd retire. You'd have big names for two years then rebuild. If they got whatever they could for Santana and put the Hunter type money into some new blood they might have a new crop of "heros" that they could tie up for longer periods of time after the stadium is up and running. It may not be too impressive for now but they might be actually looking at a brighter picture for the long haul.

I think it is so. And I said Tings, though Tori will be able to score plenty of Bling on the Mag Mile here in the Windy with his new overbloated salary. Like I said in another post, as long as it is OPM (other peoples money) I say bring it on. I don't own stock in the Pale Hose so load that salary up, make Georgie Porgie nervous in the Big Apple!

Lawdog,

Tori had two face to face meetings with Kenny Williams and found out the Sox were going to cap their offer at 75 mil for the 5 years, when the Halos opened up the piggy bank and went 15 million higher did you really expect Tori to go into details about the teams that didn't bid higher? What are you thinking man, has the cold weather froze your brain already up there?

You all really do know that Pollad's net worth is irrelevant, don't you? Do you guys really think any of the owners this side of Steinbrenner digs into their own pockets to pay for a player? It's a business. If we want big name players we will have to pay for them. I think the Twins are still the lowest priced tickets in MLB. I'm sure once the new stadium is built the prices will be higher and the team will get all revenues from the games. None of the baseball revenue will go to the Vikings anymore. Maybe then, you might hear the Twins name come up in free agent season.

Take a look at the 2008 prices. Cheapest lower level seat is now $30. And it's $50 behind the plate (as if you can get those without some connections...) Even the Home Run Porch is $20 next year. Maybe they're still low compared to other league parks, but it's getting tougher to treat the family to a game under the teflon sky...
