Here's how I messed up

Basically, I was showing off my toys. Saturday, during the lunch-break, I was chatting with the guys I was hunting with down in 3B. I was shooting a bow as I have an all-season license, and can't use a gun during 3B. They were shooting slugs. They were oohing and Aaahing over my nifty bow, and the releases became part of the chatter, so I showed them as well. We even discussed my stump shooter broadhead that I use for those pesky squirrels as well as the occasional varmint while in my stand.

Fast forward an hour, and I'm now climbing into my stand. I hang my bow on the hook, and dig into my pocket for the release, which is, of course, on the dining table. So I check my hunting bag for the extra release. Only a fool hunts without an extra release I say to my self. I reminded myself how smart I was. That release was also back on the table. As I'm considering climbing down and running back to the house for ANY release, a doe trots down the game-trail I'm hunting, and poses for me broadside at 11 yards. A chipshot. I don't even have an arrow nocked. I'm shaking. (yes, I still get excited for does. When I don't; I quit) Aw heck, I figure. I practice for this every now and again. I can surely get this big girl while shooting fingers. So with stealth that surprises me, I pull an arrow quietly from the quiver, nock in and drop it into my Whisker biscuit. I draw, go through my mental checklist (coat-flap free from the string, vane in the corner of my mouth, bow hand relaxed....) and notice that the arrow that is on the rest is sporting my really neat.......

don't feel bad! last nightwhile on a ground stand. i had serveral does come in, but windede me. at dusk i had a basket rack buck come in. i have the bow ready, he steps into the open. i come to draw. check list;shirt sleeve clear? check!grip pressure light! check! little finger out of way!( i shoot with fingers!) check! release! yes! aim??????? ooops!!

Saturday I get out of the truck at my hunting spot (8 hours up North), I'm all ready a half an hour late, open up my gun case and there is my shotgun. NOOOOO! I had swiched gun cases because my shotgun case was torn and forgot to put the rifle back in.

Called Mom for her .308 and meet her halfway back to the farm (an hour drive) get back to the hunting spot and as start looking for a tree to climb I notice the scope wiggled. What? Yep one of the scope mounts had loosened and fell off.

So I spent Saturday and Sunday with a barrowed rifle with iron sights. Saw 8 does and fawns, but no shooter bucks.

I fully expected the way my luck was going to see a monster buck at 200+ yards that I would have to watch walk away.
