Pope And Young?

I think you would be surprised at what makes a Pope & Young deer.

Here are a couple that have qualified:

This deer had 8 points and went into the books at 140 3/8

Roush_whitetail.jpg

Another 8 Point P&Y 138 2/8

Zirkle_whitetail.jpg

Just made it....128 4/8

Peperis_whitetail.jpg

125 2/8

So now lets see your deer and compare wink.gif

Although 10 points are ideal and will really help get you in these 8's are just fine grin.gif

I am chasing a 10 on my land right now that my taxidermy buddy estimates at 140. I am sure many can agree when I say scoring a deer from a picture can be tricky but a trained eye can usually get pretty close. I don't have a trained eye by any means that is why I send all my pics to my buddy!

Thanks for the post luc--- its best to look at deer picts and know the score... But you can see all those deer I would call above average 8's... they either have mass or tine length... I however wouldnt have guess that top pict to score that high... awesome deer!!!! Those G3's are way way way impressive! Hence probably where it gets its score.! Do you happen to know inside spread on that top deer?

I was surprised by that one as well! I do not know the spread. I just found these as good true verified examples from the P&Y site. Thought it would help to actually see some racks with some numbers. It is very tough for me to gauge....I just see antlers smirk.gif When other people look they see numbers. Wouldn't it be so cool to get a P& Y buck! Hanging on the wall with a ribbon! I bet you or I would be telling that story until the day we died! grin.gif I know I would!

Not sure If I can do this but here is a score sheet to get a more of an idea of what we are looking for:

Pics can be decieving, I didn't think that the buck I shot would score 168. He is a nice buck, but the pictures don't do his mass justice. Judging by the pics of my deer, I would say that he was a 140-150 class buck, we measured twice and added them up three times, he scored 168 every time. The big deciever is mass and main beam length. Its hard to tell main beam length and mass from a pic. Most people will tell you that a 25+ main beam length will get you in, mine was only 22 in. His mass was horizonatal, not vertical, so in the pics, he doesn't look that massive but he really is. At any rate, still all nice deer. I suppose you could practice your lasso skills, rope them, score them, then go get em. grin.gif

Once again, LuciandTim, thanks for all your pictures and just looking at mine, the look like they are in the 125-140 range but like you said I dont have the best eye for that stuff so just my guess. Thanks,
