The rule book is correct. In order to give kids maximum opportunity, the license is valid for all the firearm seasons. So, for $14 a kid can hunt 1A-4B and take a deer of either-sex statewide. Scott K
I had a question asked me last night abouth a youth hunter, he is 15, does he need an adult to hunt with him, and if so, does the adult need to buy a license if the adult isnt going to hunt? Or can the adult just be with him?

See page 36 of the regs. If a guardian wants to be with the youth even though not required, there are no laws stating the guardian has to be licensed to hunt when the youth has the license and the gun and the guardian is just there to be there. The guardian just can't be armed, and probably needs to have the regulation blaze orange clothing. Of course I could be wrong, there may also be some sort of restrictions on "guiding"... I know there used to be for turkey hunting, and that changed this past year. As for the youth firearms license, see page 62. Quote: The license is valid in all firearm zones and seasons, except the muzzleloader season. Here is the DNR contact info from the back of the regs. Probably best to call them regarding a non-licensed guardian with the youth licensed hunter... It'd make for a (Contact Us Please) hunt to find out from the officer that it's illegal and end up with at ticket...
