Now I havent used the Artic Armor, and have heard that it is good outerwear as well. But I have worn Ice Armor for the past three seasons.. To me it has held its weight in gold for keeping me warm and dry day in and day out...

The stuff is definately warm enough.. Last season I shot a television show where it was -15 with 30MPH winds and could fish outside when needed and was still comfortable. Either the Ice Armor or Extreme Ice Armor will definately keep your warm enough, with the Extreme suit being warmer with a removable liner jacket.

Either way, I think both make good outerwear, but for myself I am just speaking on experience from one brand.

I guess you could say that I am biased because I sell Arctic Armor, but the only reason I even have an "ice fishing suit" is because of the fact that the Arctic Armor will give you a "chance" if you happen to go through the ice. Arctic Armor is warm (you will still need to layer on the top half), waterproof, windproof and most importantly it will float you. And by the way it looks good. I have been wearing my camo suit the last 10 days and it is great.

I have a set of ice Armour have really put it through the paces all of last ice season. It is very warm and well constructed. The two jackets are very nice as many times one only needs to wear the inside jacket and when its really cold the outer jackets help too.

One trip to Mille lacs last winter and it was below zero and I layed on the ice and did my jigging. I never got cold or wet. On a scale from 1-10 for warmness and keeping one dry I would rate it a perfect 10.

I also have a camo set of Artic Armor and this suit looks to be very well designed and I cannot wait to try it out.

What I really like about the Artic wear is that I have that safety if I were to fall through the ice or in the cold lake water in the fall before ice up.

VIRG-

I think what you will find is either people have experience with one product (Ice Armor) or the other (Arctic Armor). Those who have personal field experience with both are pretty tough to come by for many reasons. First most is cost, who's going to drop $600 between the 2 suits to try each out for a half a year to give you an honest opinion. Just ain't happening until Consumer Reports does an ice fishing issue.

There are guys who love the Ice Armor, and there are guys like myself who used Arctic Armor all last winter. I like the flotation aspect of the product so that is why I went with Arctic Armor. I come to find out that it is very warm and water resistant as well, which was really beneficial last winter. At this point, you couldn't pay me to switch to something else but that is my personal opinion.

Hanson has a great point! Everyone seems to be partial to the stuff that they have had some experience with. If I may throw in my two cents, Myself and the 10 or so guys I fish with are all devoted Cabela's Guidewear customers! I have not worn the other stuff but I would be hard pressed to give the insulated Guidewear up! Just my opinion.

Dont take this the wrong way, but why is it hard to find either of the two products (artic armor or ice armor) in any store?

Alot of stores carry Ice Armor, its a Clam Corp. product so any store that carries Clam or Fish Trap fishes houses probably carries Ice Armor as well. I do believe I saw Ice Armor hanging in Thorne Bros while we were there for the Port Mod GTG.

Arctic Armor is new on the scene and I'm not sure if it is available anywhere except through WalleyeDan. I do know Arctic Armor will be at the St Paul Ice Fishing show this year so that will give you a chance to check it out in person.

If you are looking to check them both out, I would say the Ice Show is going to be the place.

I assume that all the different ice suits are comparable in warmth!?! My question is - are any of them more easy to move in? From what I've seen of the Ice Armor suit (haven't seen others) it's pretty stiff and heavy. My experience is that if I can't move easily I will be colder.

I would like to know if the blue ice armour jacket has a liner. I just recived a set and there is a zipper like what would be used for a liner on the inside of the jacket and some snaps on a cuff. almost like it should have a liner in it. Can anyone help?

Your suit has a YKK zipper in it. Clam added this feature so that you can zip any linner in it you want just be conceouse of length. I have a couple Fleece IceArmor jackets that zip right in. You can zip anything in them that has a YKK. A columbia liner, a North Face Denali, or even some Drake zip ups. Most all these companies use YKK. Try a Few just remember some liners may need to be reversed to line up. As far as a store that has both styles of suits that would be Scheels Mankato. They only ordered Red because the Duck blind camo isn't as popular as Max 4 yet and I will wait to carry the camo color until they change over to Max 4. Did you guys see the rep jump in Madison Lake on the News?

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
