They are simply amazing! Down by 2 or was it 3... with 15 mins. left, I was thinking jeez wouldn't be great if they would come back. And they did! By far the best Minnesota team! Plus its college, they play for the game, not the $. Lot more entertaining in my opinion.

I am glad the RPI fans had to watch their team choke that was great.

So you weren't watching the game?

They didn't choke in anyway shape or form they were robbed by the refferee "plural"

Are they really going with this 2 and 2 refferee system this year?

It's going to be a long year for the Gophs I'm afraid.

I'm thinking 3rd in the conference may be a pipe dream.

This is something they are experimenting with, each team will have a couple of games this year with the 2 ref system and it will be reevaluated at the end of the year.

I sure like the way you're thinking. grin.gif

Watching that game against RPI was rough as a die-hard Gopher fan. If ever there was evidence that a game could be “fixed” or “controlled” by the refs, this was it. The calls against RPI in the third were all questionable, but that last check from behind… Ridiculous! It was as if the refs got a little advice between periods about how it sure would be nice to have the Gophers in the Championship game Saturday night…

I played that back on the DVR ten times. The Gopher player (Schack I think) knew he was going to get hit so he turned and then buckled like a rag doll. If I were calling any penalty on that play it would have been on Schack for Unsportsmanlike Conduct Diving. The league really needs to crack down on that diving dump, especially the checking from behind. If you know your going into the boards with another player and your stupid enough to turn your back, you deserve to get hit. I think it’s embarrassing that the Gophers had to resort to Diving in order to beat RPI. Freakin’ embarrassing!

I had hockey on Saturday night after that game. A few of the guys there stated that RPI got screwed badly but they didn’t care as long as the Gophers won. I disagree with that. I lost respect for Schack and I will honestly lose respect for the game if this continues. Players should have to skate through checks, hooks, and holds as best they can. It seems like now the slightest little obstructions turns good skaters into beginners out there. It’s not just college but all levels of hockey. The sad thing is that after the game the other players were probably talking about how good of a dive that was and how it was a good play for the team. I think it’s sick. That’s my opinion anyhow.

Good analysis Hockey Guy....if I'm not mistaken one of the two referee's "not Campion" made almost all of the 11 penalties called including the 3rd period one's which were crucial...Campion is a great referee I can't imagine what he was thinking watching his partner do that.

Yeah, and refreshing to see a fan who can be critical of an official who made a bad call, even if benefited your own team. I agree with what you said, it was kind of twisted. At least it was non-conference, and not in the middle of determining WCHA play-off position.

Two related comments. I think with how severe the ruling is on checking from behind, it was inherent that people would take advantage of it. They can't back off on their stance because it will send the wrong message. And they can't really determine effectively if people are abusing it. TV replays are one thing, but the refs have to make a quick judgement call.

Also, I don't like the 2&2 referee system. Seems like refs are tripping over themselves out there. The Wooger even pointed out the 2 linesman were watching the same line. And if there's one thing I can't stand, it's refs that are inconsistent within a game. If you call it tight, you better keep it tight. If you call it loose, keep it loose. I can't understand how having two referee's will keep it consistent.

Was fun to see some college hockey again.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
