Spinning wing decoys

Are these legal to be used in waterfowl prodution areas? I know you can't use them in wildlife man. areas. A grey area in the law ---can you use them if not all the water is in the wildlife man area and some private land. Or is all the water off limits?

No, you can't use them in WPA.

This is good question. Here is the wording from the DNR:

"On water bodies and lands fully contained with state wildlife management area boundries, a person may not use motorized decoys or motorized devices designed to attract migratory waterfowl at anytime during the duck season"

I hunt a wma where half of the water is in the boundries and a quarter of the boundry is state land and the other quarter is private. That would make it legal to use motorized decoys if I am intrepting it correctly. Am I right?

Interesting.....I know of an instance where a river runs through a WMA. So according to the regs I am legal using a motorized spinner as long as I am on the River.

The question still stands. If only part of the area on the body of water is in the WMA the other is not, is all the water open to spinning wind decoys or not? Hope someone can figure this one out. Know of a few areas where some private land butts up to the water on waterfowl prduction areas. I know most people say if not sure don't risk it.

I think it is a gray area. I wouldn't personally and would use a wind powered spinning wing decoy. That is legal either way.

I hunt a lake partially contained in a WPA and lots of people use them including me later in the year. There is public and private ownership on this lake.

My understanding from the wording is you can use them on production areas. The only area you can't use them is where the pond is completely in a management area.
