Snowmobile trailer decking

I want to replace the wood decking on my aluminum trailer. Is treated plywood the thing to use or is some other type of plywood better. Thanks

Green treated will give you several years of good service I just replaced mine last year as well.

Better double check on using treated on aluminum. ACQ treated lumber will corrode aluminum. Do a google search on treated lumber + aluminum.

Thanks You are correct the new treated and alum don't mix very well. I emailed sledbed to see what they recomend. The article from google said the CCA treated stuff is still avaliable for certain applications but not sure if I want to use it.

Treated plywood is not recommended for horizontal applications. You would be better off using exterior PTS and be sure to treat both sides with an exterior finish. Treated will delaminate over time and is highly corrosive with aluminum. Good luck.

Really awe dump now I will have to redo it again. Guess I should have asked the same question here. As if I didn't need enough weekend projects.

I have a couple treated plywood bases(one of them a trailer) that have been around for over 10 years without delaminating but no, they won't last the life of the trailer. At some point that plywood deck will need to be replaced.

If your using a cooper based treated wood then isolate the aluminum frame from the wood. Sheet plastic, self adhering water membrane work fine. Fasteners also need to be considered. Stainless steel being the best or hot dipped galvanizes.(G-185 rating)

It will cost a bit more, but marine grade plywood is your best bet. I'm pretty sure most of the major trailer brands use it for the original decking. I did my trailer with it a few years back and it is holding up at least as good if not better than the original decking did. Every other year I just put a quick coat of water seal on it and its good to go. I tried the cheaper route (treated) on my last trailer and it was junk (warped and separating) in less than 5 years.

Yes Sledbed replied and said marine plywood is what they use. What is PTS plywood? I never heard of it. It isn't the stuff that we use to put on large concrete forms with the smooth brownish stuff on one side is it? Also seen it used for sign making. Thanks for the info so far. Bobcat
