O/U for left handers

MinnesotaMongo

Recommended Posts

I am looking for an O/U and am left handed. I am NOT going to spend 1200 plus right off the bat. I am going to look lower/middle of the road. Im a casual shooter, just getting back into the hobby after a LONG hiatus.

I have had a lot of advice so far - mostly telling me that I will be dissatisfied with most O/U's since they are designed for right handers. I thought I would ask any of you that have experience shooting left handed with O/Us. Any advice?

Thanks.

MinnesotaMongo,

Whoever told you this either doesn't know what they are talking about or misunderstood your question. With the exception of the top-lever pushing to the right the average o/u it ambidextrous. Higher end o/u's can have some cast off which is bad for a lefty. As a lefty I can tell you that you will have no issues with an o/u.

Well, I guess I assumed that all O/Us have that castoff - one gunsmith cautioned me about buying one of his O/U's unless I had him rebed it (I think that's what he said) for me for 175 bucks.

Thanks for all the info. I just didn't want to lay out all that dough and find out that it won't work for me.

Then again, I could have a handy excuse for crappy shooting..... wink.gif

I gotta a chance yesterday to pick up one of the new Mossberg o/u...nice tight lock up, a little barrel Heavy I thought, but overall a nice looking mid range o/u. Gander had them at $599. Lot of engraving on it as well, I am sure it was machined in somehow, but looks like a nice gun. 2 3/4 and 3" rounds.

When my brother pheasant hunts, he uses my beretta o/u and really doesn't have a problem, besides that he is a lefty grin.gif

Find a O/U that fits your needs and have fun
